Sonic Adventure is kind of almost a reboot of the Sonic games. It was beginning of the Modern and Current Era. In issue #124 of thev American Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series, it was revealed that Mobius is really Earth in a post-apocalyptic future.

I still consider the Sonic adventures to take place on Mobius. Mostly due to the fact that the planet cannot be earth.
