Thanks, glad you like it! And I can't color very well yet, ha. It's time consuming and my color sense is a little awkward still. I'm just more comfortable with drawing because I've been doing it way longer than using color.

welcome- and yeah, I've seen horses do this. And then you have to groom them again.

By perspective, you referring to things like linear and dynamic perspective? It's a realm I've traversed for a while, and I've only tried mixing them once. Didn't turn out how I'd like. (qwixlochflow.deviantart.com/ar⦠) And foreshortening, that's another form of dynamic perspective I'm always taking swipes at... with varying success. It plays havoc with basic anatomy understanding.
In some ways, I never really studied pony anatomy beyond the head; when it comes to drawing bodies I usually wing proportions with two circles and go from there. That affords me more freedom in using foreshortening, but drawing bodies normally slows me down.

I'm going through "perspective made easy" by ernest norling and then I'm gonna read the sections on perspective in one of Lommis's books. They cover a lot of things about perspective and I think I'll have a good grasp on it when I'm finally done. But yeah some of the stuff I've done so far is one and 2 point perspective, scaling and projecting figures to points on the ground, equally spacing objects, etc. The best part is gonna be perspective in shadows, becasue it's fairly easy but it lets you do really cool stuff with cast shadows.Β Anyway it's all really fun, and I love how perfect and scaled everything looks when it's drawn correctly. As for foreshortening, I'm not worrying about that yet, gotta learn the basics first!

Meh. I suck at learning out of a book. Unless it's a picture-heavy book; I'm a heavy visual learner. But either way, I'll probably just end up swiping the results of your work if I see anything I don't already have a base grasp at. Up 'til now I just let instinct tell me how and where to place things in space.
Oh yeah, shadows in perspective are fun stuff. The weapon-wielding ponies I've been doing lately kinda use that.
If I had to point out one reason foreshortening is difficult at times, it would be because going by skeleton approaches looks downright bizarre at first. But it wouldn't hurt to try it now and again, even if it flops. Gotta learn somehow, right?

yeah definitely go for it. Sometimes it helps to think about how good you'd be if you practice consistently for a year/5yrs/10/yrs or something like that. It helps keep you motivated, because if you actually do practice that long, you're guaranteed to improve a lot!Β

She's adorable rolling around in the grass like a happy filly. She looks so sweet and pretty, plus it's always fun to see her being a bit (or a lot) playful. Excellent job on her face, though the rest of her is really good too.
