Description "If you're wondering why, or maybe even how I lost my arm, just ask my gun."
~Riley C. Coop

---------

1712, Thomas Newcomen invents the Atmospheric Engine. These are some of the first engines ever commercially produced for practical purposes. Powered by steam, they are implimented predominately in mining operations across Great Britain and Europe.
1763-1775, Jame's Watt perfects the Atmospheric engine to produce what has been called the "Watt Steam Engine." And was the first to make use of steam power above atmospheric pressure. Thus paving way for the Industrial Revolution of the human race.
1776, the American revolution has been on the decline, and General George Washington now makes a desperate ambush on Colonel Johann Rall, and his 1550 Hessian troops at the Battle of Trenton. The American's suffer a heavy loss, as all but five of the 2600 American troops are slaughtered effortlessly. This included the death of General George Washington.
4 days later, the British raid Philapelphia's Independence Hall, and kill all who are there on site, and burn the Declaration of Independance.
The British reestablish themselves as the dominant military and the Americas are once again under British rule.
King George III then set up a small Monarchy under the rule of his eldest son George Augustus Frederick.
For nearly a century, peace ruled in the Americas and Steam Power reigned supreme. Developed further than we could have ever imagined it became the staple of all industry across, Great Britain, Europe, and the newly crissened, "Neophyte Britannia" [often referred to as NeoBri].
However there were seeds of revolution sewn deeply into the hearts and mind of those who had been born during the failed American Revolition, and they had passed their distrust in the Greater Britain forces to that of their children, whom in turn felt the need to retaliate against the now overtly oppressive mutual forces of Great Britain and Neophyte Britannia.
This is where we meet Riley C. Coop, born Reginald Alexander Cooper, his parents were devoted to the British Royalists, and actively participated in the Grand People's Parliament, which acted as a guiding force in NeoBri, until Great Britain's Parliament, fearing another revolution, dissolved the GPP, and killed all of its predominate members, including Riley's Parents. He was 12 by the time he was run out of his home, and fearing for his life, took up his Grandfather's pistol, which had been kept near the back of his homestead and was promptly met by the NeoBri's Purple coat forces, he managed to squeeze a few shots off, before a rifle barrage was layed down on him. Assumed for dead, and one arm missing, the soldiers left the boy to die.
It is now 10 years later, and having changed his name to Riley, [due to fear of being sought out by the weakening NeoBri forces and their long standing mission to kill any who were involved with the GPP, and their offspring] now roams the NeoBri country side, working as a Steamsmith, and making his way to the west coast, in order to seek out those who killed his parents. He is driven by vengeance, but he is also effectively enticing a second American Revolution.

Whew, alright so I recently realized that steampunk and the genre, really fit well into the type of story I've been wanting to do. Sci-Fi Western anyone?
Sure Trigun did it, but I'm taking a different path, that I'd like to think is pretty promising.
HopefullyI'll develop it further so that I can eventually do something with it. That would be nifty.

Anyway, I know that the storyline I gave you is substantially long, and is probably full of holes, but this is an alternate timeline, and its mine, so I don't think I'll have to worry about that too much.

I have loved westerns almost as much as I've loved Science Fiction all of my life, and I thing melding the two would be a marvelous oportunity for me.
Hell I just created a fairly original timeline and character. I'm pretty proud of both.
[and yes I know Red Dead Revolver served as inspiration too, but seriously, it'll be different!]

Enjoy!
And fullview for the detail.

Wow! The whole back story was enough, without the picture! I love this kind of stuff, and its a really good set-up for an awesome western.

The picture in the whole is good, I love the backdrop a lot! Makes me want to go out west sometime, get away from cold New York.. Plus the shoes..(I have a thing for really unique looking boots lol) Details in the mechanical arm is fantastic... only thing is, does he have pupils? I can't really tell

I really can't wait to see if you do more with this... its bloody wonderful!

haha yes he does have pupils, I just omitted them because I liked the way it looked

Thanks though I'm really proud of that arm!
It was the first thing I drew on the piece.
Thanks so much!

That is so cool! I have to admit, when I saw Coop in the title the first thing my mind jumped to was Megas XLR, but this is great. His arm sort of reminds me of automail, but at the same time it's different because it looks much less streamlined and perfected. This could be the start of something amazing!

Also, how was your Halloween?

I'm hoping.
It has been my dream to do a Western Sci-Fi thing, perhaps with my recent reintroduction to Steampunk I will finally be able to do something with other characters I have created in the past year or so!

Also yes I know that because its a mechanical arm, its similar to FMA's Automail, but this thing is steam powered, as opposed to whatever it is that makes automail work in the FMA universe, haha.
Consequently, the arms is a bit heavy, and heats up a whole hell of a lot.

My Halloween...was...alright, no complaints. I'm done with it though for the year.

Aside from a project I'm doing, but that's beside the point!
^^

That would be great! I seriously think you have something here. Stick with it!

What exactly does Automail run on anyway? The steam is an awesome idea; it gives Riley the dynamic of having something that is both a strength and a weakness, something that most original characters lack sadly.

Same here. I was pretty disappointed, we had four trick-or-treaters at my house. On the other hand, that just means more candy for me.

UndeadDeviation In reply to TheGriffinThief [2007-11-05 04:59:47 +0000 UTC]

haha we ran out of candy on my end

Oh I see!
Automail is hooked directly into the nerve center of the body of the "host" in question.
Well...I think I like my steam powered one just a bit better,
Not sure how he manipulates it, but I'm sure I can figure something out haha

TheGriffinThief In reply to UndeadDeviation [2007-11-05 05:05:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, to be honest I'm not really big on the whole handing out candy thing anyway. Still back in the day, we used to get at least twenty. Alas, the curse of not living in either a city or a suburban development...

Could he maybe manipulate it through various movements with his shoulder? Wait, does he have a shoulder? I'm not looking at the picture at the moment, and I can't remember.

that's what I was thinking.
I'll have to do a technical sketch of his ASE Arm....oooh I made up a name, right in the middle of a coversation

[Atmospheric Steam Engine Arm. Hell. yes.]
