Description Note- This image has been spread around online so much it seems many people think it IS the original Bioware version. It is a popular mod to replace the original photo and I've seen it featured on several websites referred to as "the in-game image of Tali unmasked". Seems I should have put my logo in the bottom corner...

Direct comparison to the actual original here- unicron9.deviantart.com/art/Ta…

I figured Tali fans would like a cleaner version of the in-game photo of Tali from Mass effect 3, whether they hated the fact that that's all we got or not.
Using the same stock photo, I tried to mimic what Bioware did, but also made her eye shape and hand a bit more accurate to what you can see on her game character model. I had seen fans complaining about her weird thin hand that simply had the last 2 fingers shopped off.
Since I suck at this kind of thing, a good friend Brian (Drawn2Digital here at DA) did some great work cleaning up my sloppy work and changing the colors of her clothes.
So this is a U9/D2D colab!

If you don't mind me asking, four years later from your last comment, but what photoshop brush(es) did you use for her markings? Are there any brushes that are similar to it, or did you just make it yourself? If so, do you mind sharing with me how you did it or sharing a brush that's similar or making a brush like what you created? I'm trying to make my own Tali photo, and I cannot, for the life of me, cannot do the markings correctly. I've been searching for anyone giving answers for the markings [if they used brushes or just free-handed it], but alas, no one has said anything.

Thanks for replying [if you do]!

I wish they'd made her more...alien. Like some of the other artwork around this site. This was just such a cope out by them. But good on ya for at least making it look a little better.

Unicron9 In reply to kaipur [2014-06-05 20:09:18 +0000 UTC]

They were really torn about whether or not to even show her face at all until the last minute, so it was a rush job, but I for one just wanted to know what they look like and don't mind what they gave us to work with there. I did want her to be pretty, like the asari who also happen to have human pretty girl faces.

kaipur In reply to Unicron9 [2014-06-05 20:59:49 +0000 UTC]

i would rather they have kept it a mystery than rush it. Not sure why it was such a hard decision to begin with. I don't think the quarians keeping their faces hidden is really much of a mystery in the mass effect universe. I'm sure someone, somewhere has photographic evidence of what they look like. Just a strange thing for a story to do I guess. But that's just me.Β

Awesome man, I just think you should desaturate it a little bit, like the original is, it would be awesome as a mod.
You fixed the only real problem the image had, her fingers, they removed the wrong fingers...

Thanks! I'm really not great with photoshop at all so after my work I had a friend work on the fingers. There were other things like ya mentioned I would have liked to have done too, but I don't know how and didn't want to ask a lot of my friend.

I blocked this image out of my headcanon as soon as I saw it. Alright, the face and markings look good but this image just didn't fit. At all.Β

Why did they photoshop an image of a woman when they could have had 3D artists work on it and make it look so much better and more 'in-game' like?

Also, this image came around just after they took Rannoch back and taking off her suit like that would have made her sick or even killed her (an infection could be a death sentence if not treated properly and fast)Β but she's perfectly fine when she sends Shepard up to his quarters to see it.....

But that's just my opinion. I don't like raining on anyone's parade.

Unicron9 In reply to AnnaKitty [2013-08-21 11:58:04 +0000 UTC]

It makes plenty of sense but this is a topic discussed into the ground for too long for me to bother again.

People believe in the idea of an all blue super hot babe race, all alien races speaking perfect english, and all of this other crazy stuff, but the idea that Tali could look even vaguely human under that mask or could have possibly had a photo taken is simply unbelievable... Because it wasn't exactly what you hoped to see?
I can agree the approach of a photoshopped stock pic was lame, but I liked it better than nothing, can come up with plenty of ways the photo could have been taken, and have no problem with how she looks under the helmet. Just read through the comments in this thread. Its really ridiculous.

Damn I pretty much bothered anyway...

It is ridiculous.Β  At least BioWare picked a photo of someone attractive, though they could have not been lazy and done something in-game.Β  I held off for three years playing 3 because of the shitstorm surrounding Tali's reveal and the endings.Β  But any rate,Β one person is definitelyΒ glad you took the time to bother.

Haha, I am fine with her design. Only find it weird that they didn't have a little more fun with it or made the picture make more sense.Β

Oh, and the 'speaking english' thing is actually wrong. It is mentioned a few times that they are using translators. (Good example is when Thane calls Shepard Siha for the first time and she says "I think my translator just glitched.")

Otherwise I fully agree with you and am grateful for your answer ^-^

Unicron9 In reply to AnnaKitty [2013-08-21 22:00:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh... as a Star Trek fan I always hated when all of the aliens speak english too, like on Star Wars, and I had somehow never noticed that they used that idea in ME also. I do remember Thane saying that though now that you mention it. Sorry for my grumpy approach at a reply to your first comment.
I do agree they could have put more time into the Tali reveal. Actually seeing it happen in game with a rendered version of the face, then her sending out her drone to take the picture would have made that photo by her bed much cooler and less lazy of Bioware.

DPerete [2013-05-21 12:01:00 +0000 UTC]

Nice pic, I think the original one is good too, that was simply their artistic way of doing this, as they said, same for the ending, they just tought that was good.

People just have to think: if they were rushed/other, don't you think they would cut from the other BILLIONS of sidequests, dialogs, easter eggs, etc.
Instead of cutting the ending or Tali???
Use your brain.

And the Extended Cut (FREE DLC made using fan feedback while keeping their vision) fixes everything I had problem with, game(s) I've ever played, perfect, love Bioware.

Finally someone who shares my opinion on this.
As for the Pic: nice work. I like it, even though I prefer a bit more alien-like version of Tali. And I am thankful to Bioware that they Included the unmasked Tali in such a discreet way so everyone can keep their own versions of her.

It never ceases to amaze me that people are stumped by how an alien almost 200 years in the future with crazy technology could have possibly painted her fingernails or taken a photo of herself...

This time lets go with possibility #862: Fingernails are enhanced with tech that lets her change the color with a few taps of her Omnitool.
Or possiblility #266: Some Quarians have nails that color.
Or #518: She painted her nails with Ashley 3 moths ago and future nail polish is 150 times more sturdy than today's stuff.
Or #4: She colored them that morning when she had a few minutes to spare because she knew meeting up with Shep again might mean naked time later if they lived long enough. She also set her suit for extra deodorant and made sure her hair was clean and smelled nice.

There are a few things people hate on about the Bioware original and my touched up version of this pic, that aren't really very valid complaints to me. I've heard them so many times now... Your comment was the one where I finally decided to go off about it, haha. Sorry!

Oh and for the complainers, I think they did a fine job with Tali afte searching through tens of thousands of photos to get what they felt was the right one, and I also think the revised ending was great. Loved all the DLC's especially the Citadel DLC. I think you're editing of the stock photo works very well indeed.

Thanks! I agree with you totally. I do think a bit more effort could have been put into the photoshopping of the pic, but the pic itself wasn't bad. I LOVED the extended ending. It truly fixed the game for me and repositioned the Mass Effect trilogy as my favorite game story ever.
