I stepped out of the sleek black limo and thanked the man who’d opened the door for me. As I walk up the extravagant driveway I start to feel inadequate, the mansion is huge and just screams luxury, what did I do to deserve to even be in the presence of such a house?
My insecurities heighten as I see the other contestants, the women are all wearing flowing ball dresses of all the colours of the rainbow, their hair and face done up and seemingly glowing, they’re all sparkling, covered in diamonds and various other jewels. The men are all dressed to the nines with perfectly tailored black suits and immaculate hair, they all carry themselves with confidence and grace that I could never hope to posses, they’re all extremely handsome with their perfect smiles and toned muscles.
And here I am, in the fanciest clothes I own, black skinny jeans, white dress shirt, dark red blazer and a thin black tie. I have no chance at winning when all my competition is fucking super-models.
I fall into line beside the men; all the women are on the other side of the entrance. They’re all chatting amongst themselves, the subjects are all shallow and hold little to no relevance to the situation at hand.
The other contestants hushed talking stops as a limo pulls up to the drive, all 25 contestants are already here so this must be the bachelor.
The limo stops and there’s a moment of anticipation while we wait for the doors to open and reveal the man we’re going to make fall in love with us.
The man who steps out of the limo is more gorgeous than anyone here, he has black hair, pale skin and startling blue eyes, so blue I can see them from where I’m standing a good 20 metres away form him.
As he walks up the drive, he walks with all the self-confidence in the world.
When he reached us, he stopped.
“Good evening everyone, my name is Philip, but you can all call me Phil, it’s a pleasure to meet all of you.”
He starts greeting each of us individually, starting with the women, then the men, then me.
“Hello, what’s your name?”
“Dan.”
“Dan, don’t tell the other contestants this, but I think you’re the best looking person here.”
“Oh, I bet you say that to all the contestants.”
“You caught me, congratulations, you’re the first person to call me out.”
“Does that mean I get bonus points?”
“Sure.” He laughs, and then proceeds to address all of us.
“Well, it was lovely meeting all of you, but it’s time to retire to bed, goodnight.”
He walks into the mansion, leaving all of us to ourselves. The other contestants all start glaring at me as soon as he’s out of sight.
“What do you think you’re doing? You were flirting so much I was about to puke.” A particularly snarky girl snaps at me.
“This is a competition, and I plan to win.” I then walk into the mansion and go to my assigned bed. I don’t need friends here, I just need to make Phil fall in love with me.
