7 Days Color Challenge  by Picolo-kun

Last turn before the end and prettiest of Valar and/or Valia: Varda of Purple!
At first, the amount of pigments in Ecoline dark blue drove me crazy because it even painted cleaning water and at the end i grabbed a small bottle for another cleaning water and used it's cap (seen in here) to prepare my colours (tho btw, i... accidentally created the colour i'll use for tomorrow
ever mentioned how much i love using gel pen to do stars?
Tomorrow is the last day of challenge. For character, i first wanted to use him cuz i thought i'd look hilarious in tomorrow's colour but then i got more serious and chose him (wanna gueeeeess?? )
Enjoy!

Watercolours, ink, acrylics, gel pen, salt
Story and characters (C) JRR Tolkien

I'm commenting here because this is probably my most favourite of your challenge submissions - Varda's apperance here is just too awesome to handle and I just love these intense colours and stars/sparkles in her hair I enjoyed the rest of Valars/Valias (damn I don't ever know if this is a proper plural form, damn you english, in polish everything is easier) but I think this is your best piece when it comes to challenge, you showed your potential with watercolour techniques, and made me staring at her dress for about ten minutes

Btw. what format is it? It looks similiar to bookmark, but seem to be larger

A small helpful (i guess) Quenya grammar: '-r' is the conjugation for plural. 'Vala' is the general term for the spirits/gods, as well as for males. 'Valia' is used for females. So the plurals are simple Valar/Valiar //nerd mode off
What do you use for plural? we simply add "-lar,-ler" for all plural stuff, being a and e depends on the vowel fluency
Ermahgerd, glad you liked it

I have no idea what it's exactly called, i simply cut an A4 watercolour paper in 3 equal pieces

Thanks! I've read Silmarillion like three years ago, and my memory kinda suck, this is why I'm reading the same books again from time to time. But I swear that those information could be presented in the preface, which i skipped as always if it's too long for my taste, like "oh damn you, i want my book not your chatting", because I don't damn remember if "Vala/Valia" were used! Everywhere in the books Valar/Valiar were used, I wonder, could it be an translation issue?
Oh, I wish our plurals were so simple, the most popular are -i, -a, -owie, -om, but there is an insane amount of these tips, depending on conjugation, and declension. When I started learning English, loong long time ago, I was so damn suprised that they add just "s" to everything and taa daa, plural form!

My Gods, gret method to save paper!

It wasn't on the preface but rather this glossary at the very end of the book (at least, in Turkish editions (maybe thanks to that one publisher who does amazing job on bringing us Tolkien, Wheel of Time and countless others in fantasy literature, gods bless) there's a glossary at the very end of every 'explaining-the-lore' book like Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales)
Omfg, i'm scared I was also surprised about that '-s' thing because i was thinking '-lar' was too long but right now i am stunned

Naah, it was because I thought A4 was too big but A6 was too low and small to use and too lazy to work too small so yeah

That explains a lot because I was using not so legal e-book, and it didn't have any glosary... Your publishers do a great job! Ours are busy with young-adult stories for little girls, and renewing Wheel of Time is still on hold, not to mention that A Memory of Light isn't coming to our bookstores pretty soon...

Yeah, Im scared too, polish is pretty weird sometimes

The need is a mother of inventions!

Oh that sucks honestly, glossaries are hella useful in Tolkien books!
Urgh, if they weren't in the business, we would also be the same ;___; I went to the bookstore to buy (gaming) magazine (just to read about the new Witcher) but as always, i also went to check the action and fantasy shelf and guess what? Except a few books from that publisher and limited amount of ASOIAF, it's also the same ;____; what's worse, because both Dragonlance and Forgotten Tales belong to another publisher, there wasn't a single of them DF and FT fantasy books of a must! just why world, whyy

ikr

Yeah, every book with widerly developed world needs some glossary, but sometimes even "weaker developed" books have them, it's pretty weird.
I know that feel, bro, there are no single DR or Ft books here! But I thought it's because it get old and unfashionable, like, everyone now is playing games with better graphic, and sometimes even with the good storylines, I dunno, I don't play many games, but it seems to me that D&D based games and books got outdated or something ;___; What about your Turkic fantasy novels? I mean, is this type of book industry doing good in your country? In Poland we have a lot of fantasy authors, and their books are damn good and quite popular here, and this is kinda like cure for the lack of the series like DR and FT (oh, and maybe also The Dragonriders of Pern - I started this series when I was 12 or something, and I have only 4 books, out of 22 because they're not in the bookstores anymore )

It's too sad, even here have loads of D&D players! (there was even a cosplay of Raistlin and Lunitari ffs accompanied with my internal fangirl screams) like there are people who still read them why do you ignore us, publishers?? ;n;

Turkic fantasy novels? HAhaha, greatest joke of a life time! We Turks (at least ones like in Turkey and, as far as i see, Azerbaijan) have this great prejudice for fantasy books, book critics usually ignore them because 'they are just for children' and young authors thinks taking the safe way (AKA, vampire-werewolf fall in love with a human) in case of fantasy but you only see them in places like Wattpad (worse, they are absolutely boring. Very boring)
only fantasy stuff we have is for little kids, like kindergarten kids. And they are usually either re-tells of popular German tales or veeery simplified and for-kids verse of A Thousand and One Nights. Our only 'fantasy' work, Book of Dede Korkut is served for bigger kids (AKA 7-12 year olders) in über simplified and ridiculously wrapped in a Islamic stuff like Dede Korkut is a fucking shaman but in 90% of the books show him as this 'white bearded old man who says Allah is everything and you should listen to him' and shit like that It's like calling Vainamöinen a holy priest in sparkling glitter, wtf
That reminded me of the good old Dragon Orb series. It came as a present for my 11th birthday and i loved it so much. I have 3 books of 4 but... No book 4. Like, nowhere. and I am still searching for that book! No, i will not stop until I have that book. Even if it means to read a 10-12 year older book in age 25, I DON'T CARE

I sometimes envy you Poles. Man, you have the friggin' Witcher. Do you know what that means??

Ugh, publishers be like "here, have this shitty novel about young girls falling in love with some paranormal shits, and forget about REAL fantasy novels, because fuck you, that's why!".

My... Gods.... Dude... This is so fucking SAD *cries a river of tears* :___:
Like, whyyyyy?! This is damn horrible sounds like a total nightmare, not having fantasy books industry? Just Gods, why....
Gods, this sounds to me like an damn alternative reality, seriously! You Turks, are damn weird nation..... Treating fantasy novels like an childish issue is like unaprecciating one of the huge piece of ambitious literature What do you all read then? Just, what? D:
This book you're talking about.... Just...... People are really reading this? And couldn't it be without, like , those glitters? Hmm, okay, right, there is fantasy like fairy tales and shits, but nothing for adults, it's pretty sad that you have to be kid to enjoy unrealistic stuff because of lack of the neat adult fantasy. Oh my, I'm done... I'm so damn suprised by your words, I've never ever thought about a country who doesn't have at least weakly developed fantasy novels industry! What about the other things, like, uhm, maybe.... Boarding games? Video Games? I mean, your national products other than books, because I'm guessing that the foreign products are quite affordable? My gods, my life will never be the same!

Disapperaing books strikes again! I hope that you'll find this one someday, even if, as you said, you'll be foced to read it as 25 Who knows, maybe this one will be renewed and you'll be able to finally buy it?

Hahahaha, I know! It means tons of fame, admiration, respect, and envious, and even more admiration and fame! Witcher's games are friggin cool, but if you'll find English version of the books I'm strongly encouraging you to read them too! I won't even hide that we're (at least huge majority, there are exceptions, which is hard to believe) damn proud of Witcher, and his creator Other Slavic people are writing damn fanfics about Geralt, isn't that damn wonderful?

I know right ;___; it always makes me sad to see the lack of fantasy stuff in our literature while everyone else have gods-damn amazing stuff, like your Witcher and such
We usually prefer reading stuff like über-dark drama and Ottoman-timed love triangle type of shit because it's "realistic" and "artistic"
Video games are hopefully in a better condition. We have Mount&Blade series that has plenty of fame and a few game companies started to shine here and there
Good news, we were always good at comics and it gets better day by day. Recently, Yıldırım Çınar (he's pretty famous) drew a few issues of Superior Iron Man for Marvel and there's a new comic book series called Seyfettin Efendi which became famous with comic book nerds (plenty of paranormal and low-fantasy stuff. Haven't check out deeply yet but looks pretty) and we have these weekly comic magazines since '60s
I'm sorry about that but that's the reality we are living currently ;___; It sounds unbelievable but true as stone (awfully translated proverb time!)

I am really hoping that ;u;
Oh man, that must be the coolest feeling! Oh, that sounds so evil

Varen-Ka In reply to Unistonen [2015-06-28 18:39:31 +0000 UTC]

It's super sad! There are more and less known fantasy "heroes", but not to have any? Horrible!
Uh, well, one of Polish TV station is emitting the Turkish series, the title translated to english would be "The Great Century", while in turkish its "Muhteşem Yüzyıl" ( I can't even write or remember this properly, not to mention spelling, so I pasted it from the internet, I'm sorry for my lack of professionalism). But the point is, is this one a good example of your cultural business?

Awww yisss, Mount&Blade, sweet Gods, I used to love that game! Those are great news! I think there is a pattern somewhere here, because we, Poles, doesn't like our national comics as much as books (of course, there are some cool and known comics artist, but, well... They became more and more unappreciated), and the fact, you're doing well with comics may be somewhat like a balance? Less fantasy books, more comics stuff. That's not so bad at all!
No needs to sorry, I'm recovering out of the shock! Still, I wish that one day someone will break that curse and make some kind of your own, Turkish hero that will be almost as awesome as our Geralt of Rivia
Hahahah, oh my, this one was fabulous! And  sense, cuz stones are the most "true" and realistic thngs in this world!

Yeah! But they write damn good stories too

Holy shit, I heard it was airing in Russia and Iran but also in Poland?! That series are damn famous man, i cannot
Honestly, i watched only like two (very random) episodes of it as full (because our series are 1,5-2 hours like how can housewives stand for that long??) and to be honest, i believe it doesn't represent Süleyman the Magnificent (or as we call "the Law Maker") and his era as a whole (although the actor who played him was damn good) That guy was a real Man of War and spent a very small portion of his life in palace but the series shows only the harem part of the palace (well, it's not wrong since harem was a kinda 'sacred' place where no one can actually get in and education there was pretty good) but it gets pretty boring with all the love polygons and more but hopefully there a few cool battle and execution scenes. also, dialogues are what you'd expect from a Turkish soap opera (aka, dull and loads of staring) but overall, the costumes and music was top notch (now that's what you'd not expect from a Turkish series, well done creator)
So, i'd say if you like historical drama and bored from European/English ones and have some interest on at least having a general idea of palace life Ottoman's Shining Era, go on, watch it. There are English subtitled ones around Youtube if you like

AAh, so great to hear that (Is there any particular one that you think needs attention nevertheless?) Who knows! But at least having comics in our side is something, so yayz!
Let it be! I hope that too (damn, as good as Geralt? Now that's a challenge dear but an acceptable one )

Yeah, who cannot say no to good fanfics, true true Aaah, hope our nation too will see those days where our neighbours and tasteless enemies writes fanfics behind our epic stories and characters UwU

Nice work with all of them. You've worked well with those color themes. This one and the yellow are my favourites.
Sooo, is this something like a contest?

Glad you like them Thanks! :happybouce:
Not exactly. There are some prizes for best projects but overall, it was just a challenge for funs (the artist who opened the challenge works on "a colour palette each month" thing and for accompany, he held this event)  I thought it would be fun to do some Valar to pour my current(ly intensified) Middle Earth love and, you know, COLOURS!

My pleasure
Heheh, but of course. Having fun is the point of it all. Personally I was surprised by the last color though. When I saw the purple I was surprised it was sixth and not seventh, having it finish the "rainbow colors", and I thought the seventh would be a combination of all of them or something. I didn't see the pink coming, at all XD

Same here! I was expecting the last two to be indigo and purple/violet but here we are (i will be honest, i first wanted to do Fëanorians for this challenge but PINK ) Still, why not making a difference once in a blue moon
