Description Copious amounts of sunlight flooded the Botany class, bathing both students and plant life in it's generous warmth. In front of each student sat a plant with an appealing aroma emitting from it, making a few students lean in to better catch the smell while others kept a good distance. Either way, each of the students were intrigued by the specimen that sat on the tables before them. A few admiring the smell while others merely looked upon it's appearance, it's white flowers arranged in an umbrella shape. One student touched it a bit, examining it's petals and root, finding a yellowish liquid coming from where it had been cut. He smeared it against his fingers before rubbing it off on his coat.

Meanwhile, at the front of the class, Professor Jones finished writing a name on the blackboard before returning her attention to the class. "Good Morning class! Today I have a very special treat for all of you. As you may have noticed there is a rather intriguing specimen sitting on the table in front of you. This particular species of plant is known as the Cicuta Douglasii or the Western Water Hemlock. A very beautiful subject from the Apiaceae family, which releases quite a delightful aroma. Go on, take a whiff." A few of the students leaned forward and breathed in the aroma of the flower, finding it to be quite nice. "Yes, such a wonderful smell, it's just such a shame that the Water Hemlock is so poisonous..." instantly all the students leaned back and looked at the Professor as she giggled, "Don't worry, it's only dangerous if you touch it for a period of time or ingest some of it."

Some students relaxed, but most kept on their toes, taking the plant much more seriously. The student from earlier, stood at attention, his fingers resting against his lips as a small trace of the yellow liquid entered his mouth. "Primarily found around the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Coast, the Western Water Hemlock contains a poison known as cicutoxin. A rather nasty toxin which attacks the central nervous system, leading to muscle twitches, spasms, seizures, and eventually death. Earlier symptoms include excessive salivation, frothing from the mouth, nausea, cramps, and incoordination." She with a pleasant smile before changing the subject, "Still, these plants are merely meant for decoration as the lesson for today will focus on various poisonous species of plants around the world. So if you would kindly open you books so we can begin." She said cheerfully as she began the lesson.

About 30 minutes had passed since the introduction and a certain Mr. Matthews was beginning to feel funny. His salivary glands seemed to be working overtime, producing large quantities of saliva. He felt something escape his lips and brought his hand up to check, finding a light foam substance. In a panic he rose from his seat calling the attention of everyone. "Oh my, looks like Mr. Matthews ingested some of the cicutoxin." Dr. Jones said, her smile never breaking. He started leaning against the table as he felt his legs giving out on him, a few of the other students came to his aid. Soon his body began twitching which soon turned into seizures, the students laid him gently on the floor. Professor Jones, casually walked over and kneeled over the suffering student. Reaching into her coat she retrieved a small syringe and injected something into his neck. "You see students, there isn't a true treatment for Cicutoxin besides a trip to the hospital. The best we can do is apply a muscle relaxant like this lorazepam." Slowly his seizures returned to mild muscle twitches, Dr. Jones called her aid forward. "Take him to my lab." She whispered into his ear. As the aid, helped Mr. Matthews onto his feet and then out of the class room, Dr. Jones merely returned to the lecture.

After a full day of classes, Laura returned to her makeshift office in the Biology campus's Greenhouse. The humidity hung heavy in the air but she had grown accustom to it. She passed a few recognizable plants as well as some never before seen by others. At her desk sat a specimen of this category, a new breed she had created. It sat in it's bud, with vines wrapped around it's stem and around the dirt at the bottom. As she sat down at her desk, her aroma triggered a response from the flower which opened from it's bud, emitting what sounded like a pleasant sigh. It's vines began to unravel and come to life, slithering around it's pot and onto her desk. It gently wrapped around her arm and she giggled a little, "Oh how is my baby doing?" She cooed as she brought the vine to her lips and gave it a small kiss. The vines caressed her in response and she softly pet it back.

A small noise from the back caught her attention though and she gently eased the vines off her arm. She entered the back room to find Mr. Matthews strapped to a gurney, his body still giving off twitches every now and then. "Oh Mr. Matthews, you're still alive." She walked over and examined him thoroughly, "I see, I guess you didn't ingest enough of the toxin to kill you. Will this is great news!" She shouted with enthusiasm as she hurried out of the room before returning with a small tray. "You know, I was going to use your body for some studying on plant consumption rate but now that I know you're alive I have something far greater in mind." She doubled checked to make sure he was securely strapped down before preceding.

"You know for some time now, I've been performing various experiments which have resulted in disaster, but I think I may have finally perfected one." With a grin she showed him a syringe with an odd green glow to it. "This little mixture here is something very special to me. It alters humans to be more, how should I phrase this, plant like I suppose." Still in his disorientated state, Matthews couldn't do much else but listen as she continued, "You should feel honored, you'll be the first of your kind. A human/plant hybrid." She smiled widely at the idea, "Just imagine it, no longer having to worry about food, letting the sun itself provide you with all the food you need. Beautiful flowers blossoming from your body, providing life giving air to those around you." She shook a little at the thought, "It'll be glorious."

She stood over him and prepared the injection, "Now I would gladly love to be in your position right now, but unfortunately I can not be a hundred percent certain what will happen to you, and I will not cause the world such injustice as to lose my intellect due to a flaw in my research; therefore for now it will have to suffice to be the creator rather than to be perfection." With a devilish smile, she said one last thing before injecting her guinea pig, "Now this may hurt... a lot..."

Ooo~ She's dark. I like it >
Do we ever get to find out what happened in her "experiment"?
Well written and easily understood. VERY well done, but you knew that already

I'm not really sure what to do with her experiment, as of right now I'm still considering writing a follow up or just a full new short story.

A human/plant hybrid, eh? I have one of those, haha XD I still need to put her in a story, though. Anyway, Professor Jones seems like quite a character. I like her XD
