Description they'd expected something...older, somehow.  rusting and aged and skeletal. a little more apocryphal and decidedly more apocalyptic.  when they'd expected anything at all.  these tracks haven't been used in years and this is just a silly dare.
'hey leon, i dare you to meet the midnight train.'
that was before they realized those shrieks weren't just wheels on metal rails.
they were voices
bodiless and disjointed and horrific in their wailing harmonies, conducted by a raggedy little figure half-hidden by the darkness.
they knew, of course, the abandoned subway platform was empty. it had just never felt quite expressly so as when the mad conductor stepped into the spotlight and snared their eyes with his own eerie orbs.
"are you scared?  aren't they lovely?  never mind, you'll be singing with them soon enough."

image one in a monthly series of art trades with the lovely , who came up with the idea of riffing back and forth throughout the year, making images based on pieces in one another's galleries.

Oh how you place images into my mind with just a picture. A very wonderful picture might I add.

I think my brain may have melted a few hours ago when I saw this the first time ._. (couldn't comment then, had to sleep, then work- and now there is now) where as my brain is still fairly melted from last night. Wow, can't even determine time ><' brilliantness.

But my brain melt was from this brilliance! Dear god where do I even begin?  . . . whelp, we'll start from the bottom upward I guess.

In that case we begin with the story!!! First of all my god totally unexpected :3 but awesomely written. My head spins being in Leon's shoes- just watching something so unknown, so unnatural and not being able to run anywhere but the darkness where it could suddenly appear. So much detail, so many things to picture *shudders* the freakish thing is to picture what those voices come from, and I admit- ew. . .

The background I can't help but smirk. . . The gray tile and the blue underside, toned perfectly and the detailed splatter is pure perfection. But I smirk because, and don't deny it- the blue soaking into the underside of the train, so much so as to splatter just screams underwater city! And the gray? Looks very much like Vincent just cut. . . right. . . through. . . it (dear lord, he's trying to come into our world!)

Next, the train. Well, I already said I admire the detail of the water splashing the front but jeeze- how time consuming this must've been (was this why you were reconsidering it all together?) and aw~ intentional or not I see my old style of rust destroying that train. . . so powerful yet blended perfectly into the metal ._. I also envy the patience you took into detailing the inside the window

Now the big man. . . jeeze. . . I mean, the time ya put into his costume is wonderful. But it's that face that draws me in. . . and for some reason it looks freakishly familiar. I don't know where from, but that detail is epic and those eyes. . . eee. . . I would not wanna come across those in a dark place, even if I could find a place to run. Oh? And those gloves? hee hee hee hee hee hee XD I want them, so badly. The the way you've designed them, the positions they've been given just to sit and look menacing? PURE perfection o,o including the claws. . . and the fact they look more like his flesh rather than a separate thing. . . .I think I may faint at the sight of those alone. He looks so. . . hee hee

And I admit, had I know this amazingness bubbled just below the surface. . . I'd have asked you to draw this out when you first mentioned it so long ago

i'm so relieved you like it!

i was hesitating about submitting this one because one day i'd be satisfied with it, and the next i'd loathe it.
...then i realized i was loathing everything i drew, and perhaps this problem would only be exacerbated if i attempted to do it over again >.<

SUCH a fun piece to work on, though,  watercolour is so much fun to just splatter absolutely everywhere.  and, of course, your characters and stories are just magnificent.

Course I do, it's sheer epicness!

Ah, that happens to every artist in their trail for art prowess. Suddenly all things become something terrible after having the sheer will power to sit down and deal with it. . . (been having that myself lately). But at least ya pushed through :3 I would've been sad not to see this!

The temptation to just soak the entire page must've been terrible XD though, this looks great as is! naw, so simplistic compared to everyone else, if you ask me
