Description Then there was light. Then there was the Salomon ST8. It came to me in my time of need and that time is STILL glorious! Midway through the GAWDS crisis, I was looking for any affordable way to keep rollerblading and keep doing it painlessly. My buddy Vadym, had always suggested Salomon but I did not want to believe in the skate due to age and compatibility concerns. One day, I decided to go for it. I called him and he connected me with a Russian website that sold lots of interesting goods. Particularly, the Salomons were sold very cheap and in relatively good condition albeit second hand.

Along with the skates I ordered other parts to make it a complete skate. I ordered Razors SL Shock Absorbers, Oysi frames, Blade Club Wheels (72s and 59s, 85a), USD VII soleplates, new bearings, and the most expensive addition, the Intuition V2 liners. The entire thing came to about the same price for a modern high end skate. It was expensive but I knew I was taking this skate into the future.

The day they came in, the work started. 1998 technology would not be compatible with modern day 2018 tech. So it would take a lot of cutting, sanding and removing in order to make all the parts compatible with the skates. It took less than a week of intense work. In the end, they were ready. What wonderful adventures to behold too! I ended up going to Chengdu and skating there with them. Went to several unforgettable sessions in Chongqing. They were amazing! I will admit that the frames, being as tall as they were, caused me to lose many vital tricks for a long time. I eventually relearned some of them but not with the same energy that I had on anti-rocker and freestyle. Still they feel amazing as my current skates.

Overtime, the soleplate was replaced with the GAWDS UHMW soleplates. Then, whilst sessioning in the very cold spring in Mongolia, a cuff finally snapped ending any chances of skating for a while. I attempted to replace the skate with a pair of Remz my buddy Laith gave to me and even tried replacing them with the Razors Copper Cults V2 but neither of those skates were good enough (will get into them in following updates). In the end I did more modifications removing the cuffs off the Salomons and replacing them with the Razors cuffs. I also replaced the GAWDS plates with the Remz soleplates. They ride like new again.

Thanks for reading.
