Description My latest addition to the "Temple of the Dog" artwork in my gallery. I have to say I'm not totally happy with this one, and it was done in a rush so that I could get it finished and printed out in time to give to Paul Dobson at Anime North this past weekend. Paul, of course, is the VA who does the voice of Naraku in the Viz dub of Inuyasha. This was my first time meeting Paul, and I have to say he's a great guy. He loved the picture, too.

Anyway, again, here's Naraku from TOTD. The hieroglypics spell his name - more or less. I wanted to add something to an otherwise plain background.

You can find more (and better) artwork for the story at - that's where the real artists have their artwork for the story. Me, I dabble for fun.

Oh, and a side note, I just discovered that my story, "Temple of the Dog", took second place in the Inuyasha fanguild awards for the first quarter of this year ([link] ). And, in answer for those who keep asking me when I'm going to update, I'll be working on the next chapter over the next week or so, and will have it posted just as soon as I get it back from the beta reader after that.

I think you did a great job on naraku.

Thank you. This was my first time ever drawing Naraku. Hopefully I can do him a bit more justice the next time I draw him, though. At least Paul Dobson, the VA who does his voice in the English dub, seemed to like the copy I gave him.

Thanks. Yeah, Paul is great (you can see a picture of me with him at Anime Expo in my scraps - I'm dressed as Kagura, which seemed appropriate).

OOh, very interesting. The hieroglyphs add to a interestink touch. I can read some of them

Very good artwork.

Thanks. Well, I figured that since the story takes place in ancient Egypt, the hierglypics just made sense. I used them on my last Kagome picture, too.

Oh, don't worry - there will be more. I have the next one in the sketching stage and should have it up sometime next week. I have a couple of chapters to finish up so I can get them to my new beta reader (with Bachan out of commission, I was lucky to find someone with real editing skills and experience, just like her). I also have a collab that's been sitting, 95% finished, and I really need to get that one done and posted so I can get working on some others. There's never enough time in the day...

Yeah, there's even a picture of me with him in my scraps - I'm dressed as Kagura. I've met a number of the VA's, actually - Richard Cox (Inuyasha), Scott McNeil (Kouga), Jillian Michaels (Shippou), Paul Dobson (Naraku), and Cathy Weseluck (Kagome's mother). I've also met the producer of the dub, Toshi. There are pictures of me with all of them in my scraps.

Thanks. Gee, and I'm not really happy with this one - it was a rush job and all. Anyway, Paul (Dobson) seemed to like it at least, and since I made the mad rush in order to be able to give him a copy, I guess it worked out.

Yeah, Paul was great. No Scott McNeil (but then again, nobody is). I just wish I had more time to chat with Paul - maybe at upcoming conventions. Unfortunately, Anime North really keeps the guests busy their entire time at the con. Most US cons allow more freedom for their guests.

Ahaha, you even threw that weird little beard thing on him. (What is that, anyway...)

The hieroglyphics are a nice touch, too. ^_^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Urd-chan In reply to GreyDazed [2005-06-02 21:40:10 +0000 UTC]

The beard thing is symbolic - even women who managed to be named pharaoh (there was at least one) wore them. I decided to leave off the headgear, though, since it would have covered his hair. Naraku without that wonderful hair would be...pathetic. His hair is amazing.

But, Naraku looks femmy most of the time. I can remember having quite a few discussions on lists about his gender, and having to pull up one of those pictures from the series where he doesn't have a shirt on.

Awesome!! One question...does thr heiroglyphs on the side say Naraku? I remember going to this one museum that had Egyptian mummies & things & they had a book that told how you could write your name in heiroglyphs...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Urd-chan In reply to kirayasha [2005-06-01 08:16:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they do - technically. I'm not sure if the pronunciations for the letters would be the same, but that's as close as I could get with hieroglyphics.

Oh, and thanks.

Tashio [2005-05-31 14:40:10 +0000 UTC]

Heh, it looks rather good Urd-chan! I like how is name is written in hieroglypics ( we studied those in art once). He doesn't look rushed to me. Doesn't Paul Dobson do Myoga's voice too? (I'm pretty sure, heh.) Awsome job, can't wait for the next character.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Urd-chan In reply to Tashio [2005-05-31 17:10:12 +0000 UTC]

Actually, he does do Myouga, too. Naraku seems so much more a main character, though, and with me dressed as Kagura... Just was very fitting.

Speaking of secondary voices, did you know that Richard Cox, who does Inuyasha's voice in the dub, also does...Buyou's? Heard it straight from the horse's...I mean hanyou's...mouth.

Tashio In reply to Urd-chan [2005-05-31 18:33:26 +0000 UTC]

Really? LOL, I didn't know that! It's kind of funny really, because Buyou is so...his meows are werid but funny at the same time. Lol, thanks for tell'in me.

notoes [2005-05-31 14:03:50 +0000 UTC]

I hate to tell you this but....he doesn't look like a "rush" job - he looks good!! You know I've got to tease you sometimes. All your practice with these are starting to really pay off. So I'm guessing Paul was thrilled to have it? It's got to make him proud - to have a character he voices inspire someone to draw him even though he's a villian. The good guys are always the favorites but the villians often get overlooked and someone thought enough of him to actually do a fanart just for him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Urd-chan In reply to notoes [2005-05-31 14:06:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm not quite sure Paul understood just what the picture was - with all the confusion there (people standing in line to meet him, his assigned assistants trying to get him to where he's supposed to be, and all) we didn't get to talk for very long. Well, there's next time...

That's a reference to Yu-Gi-Oh, I would assume. I haven't seen the end of the series - I heard that a lot of people were disappointed in how things wrapped up. One of these days I'll have to sit down and start watching the uncut episodes of that one.

Thanks. I had originally wanted to do a more anime-character style picture of him - like my Kagura and Sango, but I didn't have time. Part of why I said it was rushed. Also, I sketched the thing out, inked it, scanned it, and colored it, all in record time. I've never done one of these things so quickly before.
