"Out of the longboat! Take no prisoners! Sack the village! Make fun of Bjorn Squeakersson's exercise wheel, will they? PILLLLLAAAAAAGE!"Ahem. This painting is arguably the most ambitious watercolor I've done in years, and it about killed me. I used textured clayboard, which takes color really really well, and layers color really really well, but does not lose color particularly well, so I wound up having to repaint the sky in acrylic after several fruitless hours of banging my head against it. The whole thing sat, about two-thirds done, for nearly a month until I finally threw myself at it again, but I'm pretty glad I did, although I'm still not sure how I feel about the textured clayboard for pieces this large--I think I may stick to illo board in the future unless it really wants a gradient. The clayboard does gradients really well. I dunno.

It was fate that made me stumble upon this. my 6' 2'' Nordic Viking character is either laughing or weeping into his hands, I do not know which. But I am favoriting this. Because I must.
