It's a guinea pig riding a guinea fowl! Ideally, he would have paid a guinea for it, but it occurred to me that I had no clue how much either a guinea was worth or the current going price of a guinea fowl, so we should probably just skip that bit.I have been trying to put together a set of Gearworld paintings for a potential show. This is grim and tricky work, and it's burning me out with great rapidity. However, a friend of mine had the excellent advice--do a set of noxiously cute little pieces, for several days, until my blood sugar levels tremble at the edge of coma and my viewers run shrieking at the cloying adorableness of it all. Then I'll WANT to do something grim and dark and concretey as an antidote to cute.

Even though I like this piece, my neighbor owned Guinea fowls. Those stupid buggers have a tendency of waking people at ungodly hours of the morning.

I am finding it amusing how no one knows what the bird is. As the daughter of a poultry-maniac, I know all too well! Definitely not a turkey, dodo, or chocobo, LOL.
I love the fez - it makes them sort of match. Fez is such a great word.
And I know I'm totally posting too many rambling comments today, but for the sake of education:
Dear heavens, I'd never try to ride a guinea. They are quite possibly the stupidest creatures known to man!
Ours will go into a pen through the gate and then spend two hours running back and forth along the fence screeching at its equally mystified friends for help and totally forgetting that a) it is passing the open gate on each trip, and b) it has wings, which while not terribly effective, could at least get it over the fence.
They are also among nature's worst parents - they just sort of do their thing and totally ignore the rapidly diminishing flock of children trying to keep up with their insane meandering and sudden terrified dashes to escape invisible peril.
As for the going price - if you're my dad, who trades poultry & livestock like Pokemon cards - you can get a dozen fertilized guinea eggs for 2 or 3 dozen chicken eggs or 1 dozen duck eggs. Two dozen guinea eggs, however, when combined with a pygmy goat, two live raccoons and one live bobcat, several gamecock roosters, and a pair of peafowl, can get you a whole litter of piglets.
