Heh, everyone in the comments going all "Toriel NO" and acting like she's horrible or not liking her anymore. *shakes head* Maybe its because I'm older, but I understand what she's doing. This is called "tough love" kids. Sometimes, if you really believe someone you love is about to make a terrible, even fatal mistake, you take drastic measures to get through to them. Toriel knows that if Lionelle leaves she will be attacked at some point, no matter what, sooner or later she will get into a battle out there. And she has never fought before, never had to defend herself. In Toriel's mind she's going to get herself killed, and since she won't listen to Toriel's words, she has to *show* her what a REAL fight looks/feels like. She won't listen any other way. And to be fair, Tori's not wrong. Lionelle has never had to deal with any of this, she's been sheltered, and if she's not willing to fight back she won't make it. Yes, we know that the option of MERCY exists, but that's not the perspective Tori is coming from. She knows there will be those with the intent to hurt or kill, and you can't talk your way out of everything. Its nice in the game that the player is given all the right options to ACT in a way to get a peaceful outcome, but Tori is a real person in her own world, and there's no convenient plot protection to keep Lionelle alive (that she knows of. Again, this is explaining why Tori is acting like this, from what she knows of her reality. If Lionelle is outside of or protected from the rules of that reality, its not something Tori knows). All Tori knows is that her "daughter" is trying to leave right now, and won't listen to her, and she's trying to stop her from making a life-ending mistake. So yeah, it might not be the "best way" to a lot of you, but until you've been in a situation where someone you love is about to walk into a disaster, and refuses to listen to anything you say to change their minds, don't be so quick to judge.
P.S. Tori is not stupid, she clearly knows how to control her fire. She is not going to kill Lionelle, she is merely making a point. I suspect she would stop when Lionelle's HP gets very low.

Don't forget, pacifist run or not, you are attacked constantly in the game. While there might be more apparent reason for monsters to attack a human, remember most don't even know you are one for most of the game. The normal monsters anyway, only certain monsters recognize a human on sight (the royal family had an adopted human, the royal guard patrols for them... but even then the dogs don't recognize you as one). So most of the monster attacks are a normal occurrence. I think its a matter of fear for some, and others might be either predatory or defending their territory (the underground is small after all). All the possible reasons aside, the one thing we do know is attacks are a normal and constant thing. Its nice and all when people try to make the underground seem like a peaceful place, and only humans are aggressive, but they seem to forget that constant attacks are cannon in the base game. No matter how it eventually winds up, you start out just defending yourself in the ruins. Even Toriel acknowledges being attacked as a normal thing in the ruins. So yeah, I really do think Lionelle is in as much danger as anyone who is unprepared. After all, even if you live in a "safe" area, would you think it safe to wander the woods at night? Or the streets of a major city? There are a lot of dangers in the world, and the underground is not immune to them.

Naturally, if a child is going to go on a suicide mission just because they're curious then it's only best to prepare them for the beatings they will get in the future, even if that means you have to hurt them. I know I've had my ass kicked by my parents more times than I can count and quite frankly, it makes me respect them more because going through those shitty things is what made me a better person now compared to the person I could've become if I didn't experience anything at all. If I can't experience anything that will allow me to learn and live, then I may as well be dead. Just as Lionelle may as well be dead the minute she walks out that door.
