Description This is one of the first of my drawings in the 'nightmare' series.

During the last year of my time in high school, I found that I was having nightmares at least once every week. However, they weren't the sort of nightmares you could control, and they weren't the sort of nightmares that leave you awake with a vague sense of unease and paranoia. These nightmares were so realistic that I'd remember them in intricate detail days later. For me, this wasn't unusual, however, I've always been able to have some sort of control over my dreams, and it scared me beyond reason to be so helpless every night.

This sketch captures the last sequence of my dream, where I frantically attempted to climb up a tree to hide from the creatures that were chasing me, who used to be my friends. I had a vague impression that I had accidently let loose some type of plague (rather like 'Resident Evil') and that I was the only one left in the area who was uninfected. However, the people who used to be my friends had found me, and I woke up when one of them slowly started climbing the tree towards me.

Excellent use of graphite. I love the feel of this piece, and the way that you have used the linework to build the depth and structure of the tree. Many folks think that pencil work should only be used for shading, but there is a power and strength in laying down the lines rapidly and with gusto, something which comes through here.

But then again, I'm just a nut for trees, lol! Keep up the fine work.

I like your tree! It's so erie! I can tell it must have been a terrific nightmare. I thought I commented on it guess it didn't go through. The thumbnail was scary I kid you not!

Good, it worked.. That's why I did the whole series in monochromatic colours (pencil).. so that the 'creepy' effect would follow through a little more dramatically. I'm glad you think it's scary... that doesn't really make sense, but that was the aim..

Wow thanks.. I never thought of that. I'll have to mention that it's a pencil drawing next time I post it.

That really made my day.

This is a very beautiful piece, and the fact that you took it from your dream makes it even cooler. I really like the way you zoomed in on the top of the tree and had it take up the whole page. After reading your comments, I can totally imagine you up at the very top, just waiting for the nightmarish beasts at the bottom to follow after. Very well done.

Thankyou. I still can't really look at the whole set of pieces without getting a little freaked out by the tree. Thanks also for the favourite, it really makes doing these pieces worthwhile.

A therapist would probably think your a serial killer from that drawing, its quite...well i didn't want to say chaotic given the previous comment but now i can't think of a better word.

If this drawing was a director it would be Tim Burton.

What can I say, I had a lot of time on my hands when I was 17.. lol. I wish I had the time to put in that same amount of detail to my drawings now.

2 weeks is a long time, but I find that I can only work on an artwork for very short periods of time, so I'm always finished a week later (at least)

What? They do look good apart, and the only way to join them together would be to take a picture of them on the floor or wall (a process which makes them look bad) or to spend many long hours on a computer (a process which may look good, but will make them seem much smaller as the drawings would then have to fit on one screen together). Keep doing what you are doing and ignore the last comment. Anyone who can add 1 + 1 together can see the meaning of the drawings as a series.

Wow your an unbelievable bitch! Any creative criticism is good! You don't have to take it, but you don't have to right it off as completely wrong. It's an opinion and if you don't like hearing peoples opinions then don't post anything or come to a site where people are ASKED to comment! And i just happened to see these works when they were made, and in MY OPINION they MEAN more TO ME when they were together.

Kirra-lea [2007-05-16 23:02:31 +0000 UTC]

I like the tree, always have. But really i think they need each other to have meaning. But there still good one on one, just not AS good as when there all together.
