Description
Since I haven't seen a full blown proper super-carrier in the EDF, I decided to design one. For this case, I took inspiration from an artist called Eric Geusz who draws spaceships based on everyday objects. After checking out several items, this is what I came out with. This ship's design is based on a sports equipment. Those who are sharp-eyed might figure it out. Anyways, this design is based on a cricket bat that's used in the game of cricket & this is my version of the space super-carrier - EDF Enterprise.
I've also based it & it's hull number on the US navy's decommissioned super-carrier - USS Enterprise (CVN 65), which I consider the best carrier ever.
The EDF Enterprise is the lead ship of the Enterprise class super-carriers comprising of 7 ships. At around 1.3 kms in length, the ship is definitely huge by Earth standards & is designed to unleash the full potential of carrier based fighter/bomber/drone crafts in a battle scenario. Unlike the Alpha Centauri class battle-carriers, this carrier class doesn't have the forward firing energy & kinetic WMDs used for sheer devastation. However, the ships do have quite a few of the heavy hitting 42" & 20" main ion beam guns that can be used to effectively take on anything that needs to be dealt with. Although the guns on the Enterprise class play secondary to it's massive combat force of 800+ fighter-bomber, mech, transport & drone craft, it is no slouch when it comes to a fight by itself & it in fact has more 20" beam guns than both the Hyperion & Alpha Centauri class. It carries a lot of anti-fighter rapid firing guns & a huge number of various VLS launched missiles. In addition to all this, it also carries 4 heavily armed Phantom class stealth corvettes as integrated escorts, making them very formidable weapons platforms. These super-carriers are usually escorted by a battleship, a cruiser & a couple of destroyers on their deployments. Like the other class of capital ships, the Enterprise class is also built from space mined materials & exotic alloys & using the latest modular construction techniques. All ships in the class have FTL drives & each have a crew complement of around 1200 of Earth's best. The ships in the class are the Enterprise, Resolute, Phoenix, Victory, Star Defender, Phalanx & Star Trident.
I've shown 1 corvette & drone hangar in the opened mode without the force-field barrier, that is used for containing the atmosphere etc. within, for better clarity. In addition to the main diagram, I've also shown a rough, unscaled one with the overhead view of the ship to give a general understanding of it's design format.
