Description Bio: Ethan is another electric locomotive on the Salt Lake & Southwestern's electrified San Juan division. He is a former Milwaukee Road EF-4 Little Joe built by General Electric in 1946. Designed after World War II, Ethan and his siblings were initially going to be exported to the Soviet Union but with the rising tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union which became the Cold War, the shipments were cancelled. Out of the twenty Little Joes Built, twelve would be shipped to the Milwaukee Road while three went to the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad and five went to the São Paulo Railway Company in Brazil. Ethan is one of the twelve engines to be delivered to the Milwaukee Road and would be put to use handling heavy freight trains over the Bitteroot Mountains via the Magnificent St. Paul Pass, two of his siblings however would be put to use on the Olympian Hiawatha transcontinental passenger train alongside the older EP-2 "Bipolars" and EP-3 "Quills" as well as EMD cab unit and FM Erie Built diesels until the train's discontinuation in 1961. Upon arriving on the Milwaukee Road however, Ethan and his siblings encountered wheel slips on the mountain grades due to their light weight and didn't receive enough power from the substations located along the Rocky Mountain Division, this was eventually fixed when the railroad added concrete slabs to the bogey trucks and upgraded the power of the substations. Ethan along with his siblings and the Boxcab Electrics continued to power freight trains over the St. Paul Pass until the end of electrification on June 15th, 1974. While the rest of his siblings would be either preserved or scrapped, Ethan would be put on static display at Wright Park in Tacoma, Washington where he would spend his retirement. However, with the advent of the Salt Lake & Southwestern's completion of their electrification between Price, Utah and Denver, Colorado, Ethan would be purchased by the railroad and delivered to Price, Utah and would be overhauled to power heavy freight trains over the Colorado Plateau. Today, the Little Joe can be seen powering heavy freight runs over the Colorado Plateau as well as powering passenger trains on some occasions.

Persona: Ethan is a very shy, reticent, quiet, and insecure electric locomotive who struggles to interact with others, freezing up and mumbling when trying to communicate with someone, especially new locomotives that become part of the railroad. No one seems to know why, but it is possible that he is still embarrassed from the issues he had encountered on the Milwaukee Road. Ethan may be shy, reticent, quiet, and insecure, but that doesn't stop him from being a kind and hardworking engine.
