LOL XDD

Sadly Brazil didn't think so. For him Port was the slaver devil and England was the white sailor (because knights don't walk on water) who'd come to rescue the slaves from Port's clutches
...
In reality England was the pirate who'd come to steal slaves from the colonies and ship them to America to work in the farms owned by the pirates. Brazil just likes to ignore that "little detail" over his grudge with Portugal

dsiuahduaisdjaksdads Brazil *shakes* Silly, silly Brazil XD

But that was more in the 1800s, wasn't it? After the independence we got a Anti-Portugal feeling and.... started to go to France to study in universities and yeah. *learnt that with Literature classes*
XDDDDDD Silly Brazil is silly.
He did protect Brazil against France's invasion in the 1500s (though France had made friends among some Natives) and Netherlands... Though MaurΓcio de Nassau was much kinder to my city then Portugal ever was xD; *sweatdrop*
At that time, though, since Netherlands wasn't catholic, we believed he was evil and stuff and kicked him from here~ There's only one building from that time that still exists, it's pretty~ ;w;
But those days we don't have any problem with Portugal. Maybe some that are narrow-minded, but... Most of us have relatives from Portugal so LOL And it doesn't rule us anymore *Shrugs*

Birvan In reply to ToysAndChocolate [2010-11-14 19:01:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't really know much about that since my research focus more on the times of the Reconquista and prior

Either way I'm not defending what Port did since he was no saint, but at least he was willing to spread his blood (who created not only more people willing to defend the colonies but also a sense of identity with both sides), unlike England who was too xenophobic and preferred to oppress or exterminate the natives > >

What annoys me is when some stuff happen and them all the insults and prejudices start flying around. Like that case with Maite Proença *shakes fist at her*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToysAndChocolate In reply to Birvan [2010-11-14 20:38:43 +0000 UTC]

Natural. XD I'm Brazilian, so that's why I know more about our relations during colonization times

Oh, no, we actually consider ourselves lucky (or we should) as we weren't dominated by Spain or Iggy Which make me diuahdiuadsNO to put the Spain of Hetalia in the colonization times... I would like to think he didn't have much of an idea what he was doing or something.
And y'know, the colonization wasn't that bad. Firstly because Portugal forbid to make the Indians slaves (Duh. It didn't work 100%, but it was a good start) and secondly for things there and there, like the priests that came to convert the Indians, some were really well received and they loved them XD Of course, colonizators[?] sort of pushed them around because they wanted the lands, but it wasn't really that bad. Portugal was much softer, me thinks XD (And I'm thankful for that ffff)

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF *KICKS HER BUTT* SHE'SANIDIOTGOTOHELL.
I saw what she did and I couldn't fucking believe orz I felt ashamed of sharing my country with her. Argh. I know that there is people like that everywhere but for fucks's sake duaihadjkdslçasddhajdk adsoiuadhajd orz

Birvan In reply to ToysAndChocolate [2010-11-14 21:56:55 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I may bug you when I need more details about the occupation then XD

Good to know we weren't so hated. The forums I tried to read about the topic blamed Portugal for Brazil's current state of things *and even said that if they were colonized by England instead they'd be as rich as USA now*

My opinion of Spain during that era is he knew very well what he wanted, which was the gold and any other source of profit *idiot*
Port on the other hand was more interested in what the agriculture could provide (sugar cane, spices, etc). Which is far more clever because it's a renewable source of income >D

I seriously wanted to slap her in the face and send her back to Brazil in a matchbox. But I didn't like the flying hatred that sprouted though. Just because some people are idiots doesn't mean they all are

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToysAndChocolate In reply to Birvan [2010-11-15 01:01:07 +0000 UTC]

Do it, I need to study more of my own country xD; *finds it a bit boring, but after Hetalia fff I'll go read ittt*

.......... What.
WHAT THE.
............... *FACEPALMS* OMGWTFNOWAYARGH
Oh, why I'm not surprised. Thing is, we like to blame everything in others. Government, Portugal, United States and I don't know who else. But it's very common to see us complaining, complaining and... not doing anything. Like people that complain about corruption and "furam filas", complain about pollution and throw trash in the streets and so on. It's not only Brazilians but shit, it's way too common to see it here, I hope it doesn't have that much out there OTL

Ohh, that I know, I just don't see Antonio being really aware of the violence going over Latin America. I mean like his Boss never sent him over here to do those things and so on or whatever. Because Antonio's just.... iuasdhasduadjkads I have no words to his retardness XD
Port lost interest in the beginning (1500), because we didn't have gold. He got back when he found the Pau-Brasil, which was tree that made a really expensive red paint or something like that, and..... took a lot to Europe =u=;; We don't have much Pau-Brasil anymore XD; (which was the one that named our country LOL) But yes, he soon made tons of plantations of sugar that we still have today |D *sees sugar cane EVERYWHERE when travels by car, because I live in one of the oldest cities and so on*)

I seriously wanted to kick her in the butt and send her to America because I don't want more stupid Brazilians OTL
And I also think so! I was a bit ashamed for what she did, because it give us a bad image and spread this hate and stuff, even if she didn't mean it. She should know better, she's an adult fffff. Thatactslikeachildrenbutstill

Birvan In reply to ToysAndChocolate [2010-11-15 01:58:02 +0000 UTC]

Lol, Hetalia is such a good history motivator XDDD

I think it's a general problem with today's society, everyone else is to blame but themselves

Port often calls Spain an idiot, but he wouldn't go as far as calling him a retard. Spain is anything but that and his brother knows that better than anyone (it's no wonder Port is so distrusting of him, even now)
Well he was more interested in the Asian market back then, but he did see potential in Brazil. Otherwise he wouldn't have pushed the line in the Tordesilhas treaty to get more land (you probably know of the rumor that he knew about the existence of the Americas before that idiot Columbus forced him to play a much more intensive role in Brazil. After all one of his best features is to keep secrets and misguide others)

She should know better but apparently that enormous bloated head of hers made her believe just because she's famous in Brazil she'd be able to get away with it in Portugal too. And to be honest I wouldn't be half as scandalized if she didn't air and laughed about it on tv

ToysAndChocolate In reply to Birvan [2010-11-19 03:00:34 +0000 UTC]

YES, yes it is. |D

Mhmm, I agree. We find this in every country nowadays.

Ohh, nah, I only joke about Antonio being a retarded, and by that I mean the character Antonio anyway. But I don't totally mean it XD Sounds like us and "Portuguese jokes", in which we joke that Portugueses are idiots/retards but we KNOW you guys aren't.
Yeah, he was. I know he wanted Brazil, he did kicked France a few times and started the colonization in order to don't loose the land. And yeah, I heard, and he TOTALLY pushed WAAAAY much the line of Tordesilhas-- Brazil's north-east of today passes this line XDDD

Mhm. Lots of people from Rio are like that-- they sort of act like those Hollywood famous people, argh.

It feels like a lot of the culture and proper manners got lost somewhere. Now everyone is alien and distrustful of good intentions T__T

We call him that because he's always trying to be overly friendly, but he doesn't realize that puts Port on edge
Brazil has always been Port's favorite colony, as much as Brazil might hate to admit

And yeah, I'm aware of the mental image of the Carnaval dress, but honestly, I think the best way to 'break' the stereotype of that is with a Brazilian girl without that |D *likes to imagine her in clothes of capoeira instead*
