Description This was our first assignment this semester in painting class. Sorry it took so long to post it--I've actually had it here for a while. We had to use only cadmium orange, prussion blue, black and white acrylic paint. Mediums were optional. I used a gloss medium. It took aproximately 25 hours because I work slowly. The sad part was that I set it up on top of my hamper but forgot to empty it first. I had to stretch my wardrobe that week since I refused to take down the still life I spent several hours setting up. Ah well...

The next painting will be a landscape. It's due this Friday, so I should have something to post soon.

Bye for now! ^^

That's amazing! This painting hasn't received enough love, even though it's older. I really like the way you worked with the two colors (in addition to black and white) It really sets a very sophisticated mood, too.

(a bit belated, I apologize)
This is incredible work. Your color choice is superb and your technique perfectly supplements the design. I am in awe, you have my respect, admiration, and envy.

Thank you so much for all of it. I truly appreciate it, though I do not think I necessarily deserve it. Surely you can understand that all I ever see are the flaws, and they seem to increase in number over time. But, thank you for your critique. And, a bit belated is perfectly okay with me.

Oh, believe me, I understand all too well, and if you didn't you would never have acheived this level, Just keep getting better and better, I and the rest of the world will certainly appreciate the results.

I'm always so proud of what you post in this gallery (I like to show your work off to my roommates sometimes and be like "My friend Vanessa painted that")
But yeah, you're getting better with painting. Though you've always worked well with paints (more than I can say for myself ) you've become increasingly better with them to the point that I'd say you're nearly equally talented in both mediums. Even though I'm sure you could tell me otherwise, I think it'll become harder and harder to tell which medium you're better skilled with, with each piece you post.
It's amazing that this piece was created with only two colors (not counting black and white). I really like nothing looks orange, but instead golden, and that also goes for the blues. I like that you were able to take advantage of the contrast between the orange and blue by incorperating the blues into the orange as shadows without making them look blue. Very nice.
You're not afraid of contrast, and I think that's excellent!
You're just getting better! It's just a very pleasing piece (lovely composition, but it does make me laugh that you refused to move your still life even though you needed clothes. However, you're not an artist for nothing, so I wouldn't have expected you to react in any other way )

Do you like still life's more now than before? It's been so long since I've done a still life...

I very much look forward to seeing what you have done for your landscape...

Thank you very much. You know, I am beginning to think it is actually easier to use a limited palette. I'm not crazy about still life, even though they are probably the easiest thing for me. I mean, it's all there for you. You just have to paint or draw it. My weakness has always been in conceptualizing and using my imagination. But, perhaps that is why I don't like it as much as other things. I want to expand my mind and abilities. I want to paint or draw what is not there, too. I like landscapes and figure drawings. Figure is the next assignment after the landscapes in my class.... Woo!

Well thats a very interesting and enjoyable subject to draw. I only had a sort of phase in drawing figures and a few years back... Im just trying to put my hands on it again lately during my breaks just to relax and draw without the pressure of work. Enjoy your class!!!

Wow :!: I love the composition and the realistic interpretation. You are truly becoming a master of your art. excellent work. I can only dream of doing paintings like these, you must be very proud of yourself. This is my most favorite work in traditional media so far that I encountered here.
