Indeedy-doo, Mr. Magoo. Probably all that sugar. Not that it makes her hyper - excessive sugar actually has a depressive effect on the nervous system. However, it can also cause hallucinations in great enough amounts, which is where I think she gets her supernatural abilities - she can actually see the folds in reality and freely manipulate them, allowing her to bend space and move with ultimate efficiency, which is why she appears to have so much energy, even though she should actually be virtually comatose - the energy it takes us to blink our eyes is enough for her to run a marathon.
That's my theory anyway.

There. I've made it palatable to me.

Oh, that My Little Pony show. I was pretty skeptical when I saw the ads for it, and I thought it was going to be one of those put a gun to your head kids shows like Wonder Pets or something like that.
All the fanart on DA is what urged my curiosity to check it out and see why it's so popular among older kids. Just like this picture, a lot of the fanart were funny screenshots from the show, but because I expected the show to be too childish to have that kind of humor in it, I thought the artists made up the fanart pictures themselves as humorous twists on the characters (such as Twilight's mental breakdown, the chocolate rain, and I never thought Derpy was an actual character on the show!).
The show is actually kind of awesome! And knowing everyone else likes it, I don't feel funny looking up episodes on the internet.
Besides, where did you see this scene here? Now I really want to see that actual moment with the mirror!

It was the same for me, really: saw the fanart, read some reviews, decided to check it out, and it turned out that I like it. And yeah, it's all kinds of awesome. How much do you know about the fandom anyway? If you're new, I can give you a quick rundown.
I actually found the scene using Google by typing in "my little pony friendship is magic pinkie pie mirror." I haven't seen the actual episode yet - I've been putting off catching up completely for some reason even I don't comprehend. I'm weird about things like that.

I don't know much about the fandom, I am quite new to all this. This sudden interest I have for this show is like when the same thing happened to me with Sonic the Hedgehog. Deviant Art is a pretty good place to surf for TV shows.
I'll see what I can do to find that episode, (stupid Canadian television, the kids channel just cancelled MLP when I started watching it). My favorite kind of comedy is the absurd stuff like in this scene here. Along with the nicely done facial expressions, this show's sense of humor is what mainly kept me tuning into it.
Thanks a lot!

Alrighty, lessee. Well for starters, the team that does the show is pretty cool about the fanbase. You know the character Derpy Hooves? The gray one with the blonde mane and the cross-eyes? Well, her eyes were originally just a simple animation error, but when the internet made a huge buzz over her and she started getting a ton of fanart, they made it a feature of that character. Heck, Lauren Faust, the main writer of Season 1 and a strong contributer to Season 2, as well as one of the major designers of the entire Generation 4 concept, has an account right here on dA: Lots of the people who work on the show love the fanbase and all the effort put into fan-works; it's not uncommon to hear of someone from the team making a direct comment on something. There was one designer, with a YouTube account where he'd post videos about how to make a scene for the show; he recently held a little contest for people to send in fan characters, aka "OC's," for him to use in one such video. He had to make the videos private for some reason, but he says he'll switch 'em back soon enough. His channel's here, and if you read the comments it should explain it a little better: [link]
And of course, the fandom itself is pretty awesome too. There are all sorts of groups and individuals dedicated to making tons of pony fanart, fanmusic, fanfiction, there's even some fan animations and fan games. And lots of them are actually really good. Check out this guy for some good examples, but he's far from the only one: This guy here's a good musician, and you can usually find links to other good stuff on the pages: [link] Also check out the various Abridged Series; my two favorites are these: The Mentally Advanced Series: [link] and Friendship is Witchcraft: [link]
Also on YouTube, check out something called PMVs, which stands for Pony Music Videos. They're pretty much what they sound like, but they can be pretty cool.
YouTube is also good for watching the episodes. In HD, even!
This is a good place to start for fanfiction, but it's a list, not a place where they're posted: [link] It links you to places they are posted though, so just search around after you follow one of the links.
In regards to fanfiction, there are a few things to keep in mind: First, "shipping" refers to romantic relationships between characters, and which characters are involved are usually denoted by combining their names (for example, "AppleDash" means shipping between AppleJack and RainbowDash). Next, "clop" and "clopfic" refers to sexually explicit material, so if you're young or don't like that sort of thing, avoid it. Then, the phrase "grimdark" refers to violence and gore - again, avoid if you don't like that stuff. I think there's also "grimlight," which is like grimdark, but not quite as bad. And finally, there's one particular fic called "Cupcakes" you'll likely hear about at some point or another. I haven't read it, but as I understand it is ridiculously violent, and I've heard at least one person say it isn't even that well-written, and the only reason it's so well-known is because of the shock value. Personally, I'd say avoid it. Even if you're curious, you'd probably be able to piece together what happens from summaries and references others make. Also, if something gets compared to "Cupcakes," I'd suggest avoiding that as well.
Next, for everything in general to do with ponydom, check out this site: [link] It is like, the fan site to go to. Seriously, if you want to know anything pony, this is the place to start.
Finally, a quick word about the mentallity of the fandom. The general consensus seems to be one of "live and let live" to some degree, in tune with the show's themes. Not everyone follows this completely, but a lot of the Bronies as they like to call themselves can be pretty cool guys and girls. Long story short, play nice and you won't have any problem finding plenty of people who play nice too.
If there's anything else you'd like to know or want to ask, please do so!

Thanks a lot for the links, names, and glossary. I never even saw this much fanwork for anything in a while, and it's hilarious how this show got so famous, (even among 19 year olds such as myself).
Finally, someone told me Lauren's full name. Someone I watch on DA did a MLP fanart and thanked her in his comment, but only put her avatar picture, not her name. I went to her account to find her actual name so I can see where it's mentioned in the show's end credits but couldn't. Didn't know SHE was Ms. Faust. I realized that I still have yet to thank her greatly for making My Little Pony cool. How often does one get this close in contact with someone who worked on a popular show?
Again, thanks!

For some reason, I seriously want to make a decent showing in this contest. Even if you're not fond of mine, there's over a thousand entries; at least one is guaranteed to blow your mind.
Normally I wouldn't even have put the link up, but I've recently been told by someone who I have every reason to believe knows what he's talking about that the best way to make it in the art world is, essentially, self-promotion. So, sorry again, and thanks.

Sure, guess I should give something in return for the fandom information you gave me. I still have that information here so I'll use it to help me remember, but I don't see your signature anywhere in this comment. Is there a link I can use or do I just go to your profile page?

Actually, I the voting doesn't start until the 25th, and I think the page is down or something until then. Someone else said they followed the link and couldn't see it. So just wait until then, if you don't mind.
If you can't see it for some reason, there's a link in the journal on my profile page, but that should be my signature right down there:

I like the demotivational, but I"m actually faving this because of your explanation for why you enjoy the show. It's hard to find people that feel that way, cause I too am very fond of the show for its art and characters. And from what I've heard, there are several people from Ed, Edd n Eddy that are behind MLP. I just thought I'd point that out since your icon pic is in fact, Ed.

Definitely. It might not remain in my top spot for the rest of my life, but I honestly doubt it'll fall below the top five.
You know, I'm really glad they didn't end with season four. That whole thing of Old Eddy waking up from a nap just to realize he's been dreaming of his childhood was too much of a downer. The movie was a much better finish to the series.

o_o WAIT... WHAT?
No seriously, what episode in season four? I know there are a couple episodes I had never seen due to times on TV, but I saw the movie... but I never saw or HEARD of that happening... WHY WON'T THEY RELEASE EEnE ON DVD ALREADY???

VaguelyCreepy In reply to ROBCakeran53 [2011-08-26 03:37:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I had a similar reaction at the time. I'm pretty sure it was the season finale; in fact, I'm certain of it: it's the episode my avatar is based on.
*checks Wikipedia*
Eyup.
It's called "Take This Ed and Shove It," a two-parter that opens with the Eds trying out a scam that ends up playing out like some unholy cross between Barney and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood - it's essentially a live show that would best appeal to toddlers, and the actual scam part is, well, lame. (Right about now is when Ed does what he does, inspiring my avvie). When Eddy can't figure out why the scam didn't work, Double-D tells him the neighborhood kids are growing up.
Eddy comes up with a new approach, jawbreakers get involved and, inevitably, denied to the boys, head trauma ensues, and Eddy wakes up as an old geezer playing cards with his buds.
I won't spoil anything else, but the last twenty seconds of the episode esssentially end like that. It was orginally supposed to be the last episode, but mercifully CN listened to the fans and greenlit Seasons 5 and 6 (just one episode, apparently), taking place in Fall and Winter when the Eds were back in school.
Also, they've released Season 1, but I have no idea about the others.

Yeah, but give it a shot anyway. It's still an EEnE episode, and even though it was going to be the finale, it ended up not being it, so crisis averted.

I like your demotivator. It fits Pinkie Pie very well, though maybe I would've picked something that kind of names what's going on like "Creepy," but "Suddenly" certainly does work.
