I'm still trying to think about how I will do the eyes for my Kopaka Nuva cosplay. In the movies they appear to have something like a lens and it looks like it's lit by behind. I was thinking of doing something similar where I could use a blue sunglasses lens or a blue transparent sheet and have something like a fingerlight shining through from behind. I haven't tested it, and I'm afraid it could end up reflecting too much light and blocking my vision. The telescopic eye would also give me a problem. I wouldn't be able to see through the lens, but I was thinking of having a hidden slit to look through.

here is the link for the tahu's eyes I used. It's based on an Iron Man csoplay but it still works : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EL-Iron-Man…
I think that if you're not sure about the mask's lens, you shouldn't make a deploying one. nobody will reproach you for.

What do you mean by deploying one?

The AkakuΒ  Nuva can open his lens, doesn't it ? That's what I mean

Oh, I see what you mean now. I don't even know how to make such a lens. It would be cool if I could, but it would be difficult. I don't think I would be able to see through that lens anyway. It would be like having a tube for my right eye and a small hole at the end, so I was thinking of making a small slit just next to the tubed part to look through. Unless I could find a curved lens of the right size and shape. I would only have cheap materials though.

Sweet! Is the armour made from EVA foam? I've used it before for a Pacific Rim drivesuit cosplay.

It's difficult to tell from this picture, but some of the armour seems porous. Tip I've been given after not doing it with mine is you can get the best result by putting the foam in the oven for 30 seconds which pops the air bubbles and you can mould it into shape while warm. Then cover it in PVA glue to give everything a smooth surface before painting.

Of course, it might just be this photo. Just thought I'd share a tip that I wish I'd been given before I did mine.

Can't wait to eee the full thing! I'm still considering doing one for Pohatu myself, so it'll be good to see how this looks when complete

Yep, it is EVA foam, I use this model to make my armors : www.caltech.fr/mousse-plastazo…
You can't see other details of the suit because it's a teaser picture I have to 3D print hands and fingers to fully finish it.
I know there's many imperfections on the foam and paint surface, I just really have no technique to make a smooth and proper surface. I hope it will be took for battle damages ^^
Full review of the suit comes soon, by the end of the month for a french lego festival. Can't wait to see it finished too !

This is looking great so far. I like how you have "Tahu" written on the chest plate with the matoran language, and "Toa" on the shoulder plate in the same language. I'm still trying to see if the new calligraphy for Bionicle 2015 can be deciphered or not though.

I don't think they created a new language for the 2015 storyline. I really wanted to make this suit half G1 and G2, and I just still love old Matoran alphabet style !

It's hard to know for certain, but it does kind of look like a new language. If you watch episode 1, The Prophesy, you will see the new markings lining the top and bottom of the narrative relief. In some older cultures, that was where some calligraphy was added. You also see the markings all over the place like when you saw the matoran alphabet reappear in the old generation.

If you order the first book, it does actually have the new alphabet in it. Confirmed new language. It's not as good as the original though

I'm not able to order the first book, but I'm still curious about the new alphabet.

I think the alphabet has been posted online. Maybe check BZPower or Biomedia Project?

Yeah, I'll check it out.

I agree, but in G1 the callygraphy made a real sense. We could really write it. Now, this new one seems to be more decorative. Didn't see any translator, though

Yeah, the old Gen alphabet was relatively easy to translate. Another reason I think this is a written language was when Lewa read the rules to the Arena's game. It showed images, and it had the new symbols or pattern, but Lewa was somehow able to decipher what was "written" or illustrated. I don't know how Lewa was able to translate with no memory, or without living on the island before, but I don't think the pictures were enough.
