Description Oil on hard board.

"Ompas siinΓ€ DDR:lΓ€inen maalaus" ("Now that's what I call a DDR-type of painting")

...was what the painter Juha Okko (also the Chair person of Suomen taiteilijaseura i.e. the Artists' Association of Finland, AAF) commented upon seeing this.

It was a surprising thing to hear, but fortunately, I'm the type of person who gets flattered by East Germany -comparisons - Great, if the spirit of the DDR is strong with something I've managed to paint.

Apparently, the thing was that they allowed expressionism to co-exist with socialist realism in DDR, as long as the subject matter was representational, and this reminded him of those paintings.

(although, to be fair, he was commenting on the work in progress, which looked more expressionistic and the finished work took a step or two towards realism)

Other people seemed to like this one a lot, and I received several offers for it. It's sold now.

The reflects on the water are so rich and subtle. A picture to get lost in.

This is a beautiful painting man! I love to see oil paintings. It really has a nice feeling about it. The bottom part and the mention of the DDR does remind me of a little communism

How much do you remember communism & Ceaucescu-days in your country?

I was born in '85. I remember some of 89 I know we had to praise Ceausescu in kindergarten every morning and there were pictures of him in every school book. U had to stand in line for milk and meet, and you only got some good stuff if you had friends in the communist partied or up high places. There were good things though, all the kids were playing outside all kinds of fun games not only stupid computer games.
Bot most of communism I know from my father. He told me all the ridiculous stuff that happened during communism in the higher up places how they wasted all recourses, produced high numbers which they couldn't sell just to be able to show those number to Ceausescu and the partied.
