Probably yes, that's the cause. But also there is an absurd amount of MarySues out there for Starry. Perhaps many people just want to pair him with "her" femme, or just a guy... because they think "canon femmes are stupid" or something among those lines. >.<

I tried my mary sues - Sunburst, remember her? I think he's rejected most of which I have sent at him. Heck he refuses to share cabinet space with windblade...alas, skywarp was more than merry to have her next to him.

Oh, yes, I remember her. Actually I liked Sunburst quite a lot, and I never saw her as a "MarySue", but a character of her own, with her flaws and mistakes (some even a little nerving). In your story, Screamer didn't get along with her because their (mutual) deeds, in spite their obvious atraction... But actually I think it's kind of IC since, well, who could get along fine enough with Starry for so long? Starscream being an ass with female characters is as canon as being an ass with male characters.
The problem here is when the female one just pop up in the story to be "his mate", because no reason and because she's just fantastic to dead.
---As for Skywarp... Yes, he would be more than prone to play along with her, or any other willed femme.

I have nothing against it, as long the canon characters are written in character (is that the right word ?) and the story as well as the OC femme, is interesting and well written.

Yeah, I also have met some good OC femmes out there, and canon characters must be IC, too. But those are rare deeds; usually those OC femmes are just MarySues because they're just flat self-insertions instead good characters.
Anyway, it's weird to see many fans like to pair Screamer with an OC femme better than a canon female.
