Description
Tired from a long training session alone, you placed your hands behind your head a flopped down into the cool grass. You shut your eyes and took a deep breath in, trying to calm your rapidly beating heart. Only a few seconds after you had closed your eyes, you felt hot wet breath all over your face. “What on earth?” Shielding your eyes, against the sun, you slowly opened them. “Akamaru, what are you doing here? Where's Kiba?”

Akamaru gave you a loud bark just before he licked your cheek affectionately. “Gee Akamaru, I told you not to run off on me. This is the third time this week. What's gotten into you?” Looking slightly aggravated by his companion's disobedience, Kiba sighed. “At least you're alright.”Quick to forgive Akamaru, Kiba looked up at you with a wide grin. “Sorry this keeps happening, he's really gotten attached to you lately.”

It was really true. Over the last month or so, Akamaru had slowly started spending more and more time with you. “It's okay. Besides the dog drool, I don't mind him hanging out with me a bit. He's a good dog after all.” You gave him a scratch behind the ear and stood to your feet.

“Of course he's a good dog, he's mine.” Kiba's grin grew even wider as he held his head up high with pride. Another bark got his attention. “Oh right, I almost forgot, thanks buddy.” Clearing his throat and nervously rubbing the back of his head, a light pink tint covered Kiba's face. “Are you maybe free tonight? I understand if you aren't, it is really short notice.”

Your schedule, like always, was just about empty, making your answer a no-brainer. “I don't think I have anything planned. Why, you want to hang out?”

“Something like that.” He shuffled his feet nervously for a second before looking back up at you with a toothy grin. “Anyway, maybe we could meet right outside the village gate, unless you'd rather stay indoors, then we could hang at your house. But either way, is six too early, or too late?”

“Outside at six is fine. I'll see you then.” With a nod, the two of you awkwardly parted ways. You found this rather odd, especially for Kiba. You could understand a conversation with Shino or Sai being awkward and strained, but not Kiba. Things had always been easy around him, because of this, you began to worry that you might have done something wrong. Finally back at your house, you realized you had very little time to shower and eat before meeting Kiba. Rushing, so as to not be late, you quickly freshened up and grabbed an apple from your counter top. You knew you'd still be hungry even after eating it, but it would have to do for now.

Already waiting at the village gate, Kiba paced back and forth, waiting on you to arrive. The minute he saw you his face lit up and a bright smile appeared. “Hey, I didn't realize how late it was, sorry I gave you such short notice.”

“Don't worry about. Where's Akamaru?' It was strange to see one without the other. Kiba showing up alone was something that only added to your worries.

“Oh, um, he stayed home. Yeah. Y-you know how it is, it gets dark and then the bugs show up. I don't want him getting fleas or anything like that.” He gave a nervous chuckle and offered you his hand. “You ready?”

You nodded and took his hand. “Sure am, let's get to it.” It felt a little strange holding his hand, but strange in a good way.

“Right.” He nodded and began walking with you to where ever it was he was taking you. The moment your journey started, the talking stopped. Everything quickly became awkward and tense. The tension grew so rapidly you found yourself wanting to half strangle Kiba and demand he tell you what his problem was. Fortunately for him, you were able to restrain yourself.

After a full ten minutes of silence, you couldn't hold back any longer. “Where are we going exactly? I'm pretty sure we've passed that tree already.”

“Well, that's the thing, we aren't going anywhere.” Kiba's face turned bright red at his confession.

“What do you mean we aren't going anywhere? We're obviously going somewhere, we're walking.” Everything he'd done today, from the odd way he was acting to the strange things he said was confusing you. “Are you lost or something?”

“N-no.” His blush grew as he hung his head. “We really aren't going anywhere. I had no plans to take you anywhere or do anything with you. I know I shouldn't have asked you to hang out with me when I had nothing planned. It's just...” Shutting his eyes tightly, Kiba let out a deep, almost depressed sounding sighed.“Truth is, I just wanted to spend time with you. I really like being around you. I'm really sorry about this. Maybe we should go back.” Kiba turned around, fully ready to take you back to the village and pretend none of this ever happened. You however were still in shock. Holding tightly to his hand, you prevented him from going anywhere. “A-are you okay? You aren't angry at me, are you?”

“Angry?” You gave him a crooked amused smile only seconds before you broke down and laughed. “Kiba, I'm the complete and total opposite of angry. What you just said might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.” Unable to keep your happiness inside any longer, you squeezed him into a tight hug. “I really like you, and I love spending time with you. You don't ever need an excuse to see me. We can hang out and do nothing at all anytime you want.”

His blush quickly returned once he realized you weren't upset, but in fact flattered and happy. “Oh, well that's good to know.” Breathing a sigh of relief, Kiba returned your hug, squeezing you just as tightly and nuzzling your neck with his nose. “Man, I feel like a dork. I should have just told you the truth sooner huh?”

“Probably.” You slowly, and somewhat reluctantly stopped the hug and nodded. “If you'd told me sooner, we could have just hung out at my place and avoided all these bugs.”

“There are a lot of them out here, aren't there? I blame Shino, that guy's always doing stuff just to tick me off.” Trying not to focus on all the pranks he and Shino had pulled on each other, Kiba smiled and took your hand again. “Anyway, I should still probably get you home, It'll be dark soon, and I don't want people to think weird stuff about us.”

“Weird stuff,like what exactly?” You knew what he was talking about, you just liked to watch him blush and fidget nervously. Your plan worked, but only until Kiba realized you were teasing him.

“Hey, don't start that. If you tease me, I will find a way to tease you back. And my teasing may not be as innocent as yours is.” He rubbed his nose against your cheek, snuggling a little closer to you as he walked you back to your home. The closer you got to your house, the slower Kiba walked. It was more than a little bit obvious he wasn't ready to leave you yet. Luckily for both of you, you had a plan that would keep him from leaving, at least for a little while longer. “W-well, here we are. I guess I'll see just you later then.”

You feigned a shocked expression, letting your mouth hang open. “You mean you aren't coming in? I thought maybe we could watch TV together or something. There's a horror movie marathon on, and I can't watch it alone you know.” Giving his hand a little tug, you beckoned him to follow you inside.

Taking only one step, a look of reluctance appeared on his face followed by a deep red blush. “You'll keep this a secret right? My mom will get pretty upset if she finds out I was alone with a girl.”

Trying not to laugh, you smiled and nodded cheerfully. “You're secret's safe with me.” You tugged him again, hoping this time he would follow. "Now come on, before these bugs eat us both alive.”
