Description Sometimes when I work with maps too much, I start seeing them in my dreams. Like with my dream creatures , I started to document them a while ago, and recently I thought, why not share some of the more interesting ones?

Something intrigues me in how my subconscious shapes and labels these blobs of colors. It reminds me of those texts and pictures made by AI. They have the same trippy quality of being produced without intent, by something that doesn't know what it's doing, but somehow still looking meaningful. Like a neural network, my "dream mind" seems to pull and combine tropes from various real maps without understanding what they mean, but is so good at it that the results appear to make sense, save for random oddities here and there (that remind me of AI artifacts too). What to make of this similarity, I don't know. But it gives these maps a slightly spooky aura, at least in my eyes.

Here's four of the more interesting maps by my subconscious, with some additional info that I just kinda "knew" in the dreams.
Gray areas with question marks are the areas I either didn't see, or completely forgot what was in there.

The first map takes place, I'd assume, in early 20th century. Germany and Italy presumably won a world war of some kind (that had little to do with our WWI, suggesting that the PoD occured much earlier) and became the two main powers on the continent. They then had a split and started a cold war with each other, which lasted at least a decade and was punctuated by sporadic short wars that gradually reshaped borders of their puppet states. During one of such wars, however, both countries were attacked by the former world war losers - France, Britain, Russia, Spain and Ottomans - that formed a coalition called Phonemes (in-dream this name meant either "tiny stars" or "star light" for some reason). Faced with the surprisingly strong two-front offence, Germans and Italians managed to get over their animosity and stop fighting, uniting against this new common threat. Their alliance was called the The Awful Peace, probably to reflect its forced nature.
There was also a glimpse into North America that I didn't include here. Basically, the US was split into North and South, both stretching from coast to coast. The former was a part of the Phonemes, and the latter was an Italian ally. There was also a weird thin stripe of land between them (stretching from atlantic coast south of Maryland to the west end of Kentucky) called Collaborationist States of America, that was apparently occupied by Germans.

The second map is an interesting one. It looks like your average Europe-inspired continent in a fantasy world, but in-dream it actually felt like an alternate version of our human Earth, that just had a different geological history.
A nice animation showed me that because of the continent's shape, the processes in its wind rose in certain conditions would somehow lead to a climate catastrophy like in The Day After Tomorrow (2004), except times a thousand. That is, a giant continuous front of freezing air would suddenly arrive from north and rapidly cover all of Eurasia, "and Europe won't be saved by those mountains" (an in-dream quote). What's even crazier is that all life there would be killed not by freezing temperatures, but by the wind speed - in Muscovy it was projected to exceed the speed of sound, and around the continent's south coast it would literally start to level the landscape. The only place where something would be able to survive would be south China (surrounded by an unnaturally smooth and thin wall of mountains, probably artificial), and that's only if the wind doesn't breach it as well.
The rest of the world I didn't remember that well, but it was quite deformed too. Africa was completely absent, and instead of India and Arabian peninsula south Eurasia had a series of random bumpy coasts and gulfs. How Americas looked I didn't remember, but I assume the north one was connected to Europe through this land bridge. And named Thanos for some reason.

The two remaining maps don't have this much context, I basically only saw the images with no additional information.
The one on the right, I assume, is the result of the US either having a new civil war with foreign intervention (most likely Cuban), or losing a war against Mexico and Cuba, who carved out some puppet states from occupied territories.
The one on the left I saw not in a dream exactly, but in a hypnagogic state (a state between sleeping and waking), and it also had no context. What I'll note about it, however, is a strange propensity of my subconscious to give Poland weird not country-sounding names, like Soldier or (in another dream) Phazon.
