Description
It’s not always the case that I get a great deal of backstory or of character description for a commissioned work. While that can be helpful, it’s often just as helpful to go from the commissioner’s own artwork and have some fun with it.

In the case of Hester (left) and Verde (right), I had a straight up bit of sparring between two energetic-looking characters and a bright color palette, and though I didn’t get quite as much motion and energy out of the final drawing as I did with the initial sketch, I did very much enjoy the process of carving out light, shadow, and presumptuously “tuning up” the design of their uniforms with some contour lines and added swatches (I’m such a fashion maven). Fortunately, such liberties were well-received by the original character artist, and I felt the distinct satisfaction of a guy whose team uniform redesign was appreciated by the home fans.
