The sun was beginning to set, turning the clouds rose. Lilla sat next to Akinari under a tree near the house they shared, twirling an autumn leaf between her fingers. She studied it for a moment before turning to Narri. “I need to talk to you,” she said.
“What about?” he asked.
“Well...” she began, “I've been thinking - about us. We've been together for a long time, and we've been through a lot.. from when we first met as kids, to growing up, to your nightmares, even those potions..” She nestled into him, hugging him. “And so many walks together, and countless other moments.”
She fell silent for a moment, watching leaves flutter past. “But maybe it's time for a change.”
He stiffened. “What do you mean?”
“I love you so much as it is, you know that - but I feel like you're more than this to me.” She placed a paw on his chest, looking into his eyes; the golden eyes she'd always adored. “I guess what I'm trying to say is..” She paused. “Will you be my mate?”
