I love this creature because it seems more realistic than every picture of satyr i have ever seen ! I love your interpretation of this creature, it's so creepy and fascinating at the same time !! Good job !

This really is so very lovely!!!
What sort of clay have you used here ... air drying?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VanLogan In reply to NAKT-HAG [2012-03-05 22:54:42 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. The clay is chavant nsp medium. It is not air drying

NAKT-HAG In reply to VanLogan [2012-03-05 23:06:02 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for that!
I've created a number of sculpts out of polymer doll clay. Obviously, in this medium they have to be quite small. Due to lack of facilities I'm searching around for something air-drying in order that I might work bigger. The clays I have experimented with up to date leave a bit to be desired.

have you ever considered working in a clay and making a mold from that to cast the final piece from?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NAKT-HAG In reply to VanLogan [2012-03-06 03:03:06 +0000 UTC]

Without it having to be fired?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VanLogan In reply to NAKT-HAG [2012-03-06 04:36:47 +0000 UTC]

If you made a mold you would not have to fire the clay, you could cast the sculpture in plaster, resin or any other various materials

NAKT-HAG In reply to VanLogan [2012-03-06 10:52:43 +0000 UTC]

OH! Now that solves the problem!!! I presume you make the mold by painting on layers of silicon rubber?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VanLogan In reply to NAKT-HAG [2012-03-07 06:11:25 +0000 UTC]

That is how I would do it. I would also make a mother mold out of plaster on top of the silicon

Thank you so much for this. I shall certainly do some experimenting with this over the summer.

this is beautiful! but what did you do that the sculpture stands this good? My english is bad so I try to explain what I mean^^ Did you do a scaffold (?) or put a metal rod in it, so it is able to stand itself?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VanLogan In reply to Lataki [2012-02-27 18:26:51 +0000 UTC]

There is a metal rod inside the leg. The rod is welded to a metal plate.
