Backstory: Copper hatched to Kite and Firelight of the SkyWings during Queen Scarlet's reign as queen of the SkyWings. As a dragonet, he was often teased because of his exceptionally dull orangey-red scales, and because he was scrawny and small compared to the other dragonets in the nursery in which he grew up. His parents didn't help matters, as they considered him useless compared to his brother, Redtail. Growing up in his brother's shadow caused Copper to become resentful and bitter, often taking out his anger on the other dragonets in the nursery by beating them up and often sending more than one home with broken legs, tails, snouts, horns, talons, wings, or in one unfortunate dragonet's case, a broken neck, which killed that dragonet. When at home, Copper's father, Kite, would regularly beat on his youngest son by berating him scornfully, and would send him out of the room, ashamed and embarrassed. Copper took to wandering the mountains as a dragonet to escape both his father's talons, and the memories. One day, as he was walking along the same familiar path that he had been for several months, a SkyWing guard and his brother flew up to him, and asked if he would be interested in joining the SkyWing army as a soldier. That did sound interesting, Copper thought, and perhaps it would get Kite to stop berating him every day when he came home. Copper became a soldier in the SkyWing army, and was placed under his brother's command. At first, it felt strange calling his brother Commander Redtail, but he eventually got used to it. Copper fought in the war for five years, until the battle in which his brother was killed and the left side of his face and part of his neck were maimed by an IceWing's claws and frostbreath. After that, Copper had unyeilding hatred for all IceWings and hybrids, because it had been an IceWing SandWing hybrid who had murdered his brother. Copper resigned from the military, and became an arena guard. While working as a guard, he met a SkyWing named Ether, who had the most beautiful scales he had ever seen. As he watched her, Copper became infatuated with Ether, but in a "oh, I'll pretend that I love her to get her to mate with me, and after we have had eggs together, I'll dump her" sort of way. After Ether's shift was done. Copper asked Ether to go out with him, putting on a nice facade, beneath which, hid a smoldering, festering hatred of hybrids and IceWings, as well as his resentment for being abused by his father, and practically ignored by his brother. Copper tried to hide it, and hide it he did, but it started to come out as Ether began to mention the prisoner she had been given charge of in great detail. It was an IceWing. He loathed IceWings, wanted to murder every single one he came across, and then mutilate their dead bodies until they didn't even look like dragons anymore. Copper snarled that Ether should shut her snout, and keep it shut. When she asked him why, he snapped that it was none of her business, and that she shouldn't talk to the prisoner anymore. Ether did, for a while. When Copper promised to do something horrible to Ether if she refused to follow his orders, Ether broke up with him. When Queen Ruby took the throne, Copper tried to find Ether again, and eventually tracked her down in Possibility, where she was living with the IceWing prisoner she had mentioned. Copper paid four SandWings to bring his mate to him, as he still saw her as belonging to him, and he wanted to keep it that way. Ether was brought in, and chained to the wall. Copper smiled as he saw her, unable to do anything but yell at him. One day, Copper came back to see Ether, and found a SeaWing SandWing hybrid trying to free her. Angered, Copper ordered the four SandWings he'd brought with him to attack and kill the hybrid. Then he turned around just in time to see a very scarred, very angry, and very murderous looking IceWing on top of him. For several minutes Copper and the IceWing fought. Copper was killed when the IceWing forcibly pried his jaws open and shot frostbreath down Copper's throat.
