The term originates in Greek mythology. Cassandra was a daughter of Priam, the King of Troy. Struck by her beauty, Apollo provided her with the gift of prophecy, but when Cassandra refused Apollo's romantic advances, he placed a curse ensuring that none would believe her warnings. Cassandra was left with the knowledge of future events, but could neither alter these events nor convince others of the validity of her predictions."

I love the feeling of this. You capture her...sadness, I think, as well as her vulnerability very well.
I could, however, also see her screaming at the top of her lungs, in a frenzied state, trying desperately to be heard!

I'm really sorry for the terribly late reply!
Basically I use more than one brush, and more than one technique in each painting... Depends on my mood or how fast I wanna do it. But I do start out with a basic color (the dominant hair color) and apply the color on a separate layer using my own custom made brush (it's an adjusted spattered Photoshop brush. From the brush presets you set the "other dynamics" and "Shape dynamics" to pen pressure) and so it simulates soft strands.
After the basic layer, while using the same brush I map out the shape of the hair.. how I want it to look. Then add layers of lighter colors depending on the light source (bearing in mind to change hues as well not just the lightness of the color)
With the really really thin strands I switch to the hard brush (which I also set to pen pressure) and add in the thin strands, which are mostly the lightest parts of the hair...
