Second gift down, a few more to go. This one is for MMM-AJ [link] who also gave me a subscription and in general has been a very generous person both with favorites and commenting. This is the second Mewthree of his that I've drawn for him, this one being an perky, adventurous Pokemon named Cygnus.For some odd reason when I thought adventurous, outdoors and active for a personality, somehow I mixed in the obvious Fire type traits into this picture. If I stuck any of my Threes in a place like this they'd mostly freak. Cygnus on the other hand seems oddly casual about it. I chose a volcano range for the background and generally struggled with everything. Gave it a try, not too pleased but at least the character manages to stand out since the background isn't nearly as crisp.

Nice job, I've always like that character. I've been reading MMM's stories so I know his character when I see it. You did a pretty good job, the fire on the tail could use more illumination though.

I actually don't know if his tail is suppose to be actual fire, since he mentioned fur in the description that I was given. All I figured was that it probably should have some similarity.

The pose isn't too terribly elaborate since he's really just pausing in movement and looking over his shoulder sort of thing. Shading was kind of darken the character, and user their normal color around the lines. Very easy stuff.

What can I say, you continue your unending streak of beautiful and amazing giftarts! I absolutely love it, but I'm sure you expected that!
What I like:
-Pose: Very active, but not silly or extreme. Fits Cygnus perfectly!
-Coloring: Right on the money! The tail is exceptionally good, it really looks as if it were on fire.
-The details: The claws, red stripes, the scar, it's all there. Excellent work!
-The Expression: You really caught Cygnus' playful nature. Just looking at that makes me smile.
-The Volcano: The magma and smoke effects are awesome. I especially like how you kept them from being too distracting by making them a bit blurry, while keeping Cygnus sharply in focus.
-The anatomy: As always, it's beyond reproach.
TINY critiques:
-The fur on the tips of his horns could be a tiny bit fluffier.
-The blue of the sky between the clouds and ground feels a bit distracting and out of place. Orange or reddish for sunset might have felt a little bit better, but that's just my opinion.
-The scar looks like it's only made out of dots. I probably should have reminded you that since he and his brothers had lost their powers during the attack, they couldn't cleanly heal their wounds with their powers, leaving full blown nasty scars. Although medical science is pretty advanced at this point in the story, their bodies were under prolonged extreme stress at that point, and Cygnus even survived without a functional heart for a short period of time before he got the artificial one, which would lead to a somewhat lessened healing response.
These crits are really minor though, and they don't detract from the sheer awesomeness of the picture as a whole. I can visualize Cygnus really enjoying himself in this environment, going out for a nice long rock climbing excursion and seeing the sights.
Once more, would you please give me permission to hang this on the wall in my room?

Have I ever told you that you write way too much? And it isn't tiny.
Sorry for the fur on the ears, but 3-4 inches isn't a lot and I should have marked lines or something. The scars, associated it with heart surgery instead of well... blast wounds. Didn't consider it. The blue was because generally not most eruptions happen specifically at sunset. Kind of figured you'd call on that one. Actually, most of what you said with that was not much of a surprise since anything that makes me nervous in a picture usually is what gets called out. I'll make a mental note of these.
For the body with the colors, most of the markings and such, there was AcidShadow's reference so it was pretty easy to just play off of that. The background was blurry since it was really quickly done. Didn't want to sit there and go in for high-res things since the character just lacks the detail to justify that. His behavior and location worried me a lot too (aside the fur, scars and well... badly placed blue) but glad those didn't set off any alarms.
And do whatever you want with it, as it was made for you. I never stop people from printing pictures.

MMM-AJ is very particular about what he wants in a picture and gave this huge description for the picture. He also presented your picture as color reference since he said it was very accurate in that department. I liked yours to begin with, but I guess eventually he wants me to draw all four of his Mewthrees, so he just picked that one next.
