Description Figured I'd continue flexing my traditional media muscles and go to one of my loved, and more common of them, the watercolors. As it goes, you don't need expensive anything to do well, just a good working knowledge and a lot of patience. There are a lot of things that a person can do, that programs like Photoshop, SAI or Gimp struggle at badly. And of them, it's how to make something look kind of painterly. (Of course, once you scan it you'll probably need either a really good scanner/or Photoshop to color correct the thing.) Sure, they punished me in their own way, but I can never pass on their soft textures and beautiful colors.

Watercolors are soft and romantic, and I believe it to be the medium of women, rather than men, just because of it. Using such a thing punishes people for trying dark colors, but then I wanted a very light character, next to a very dark one (both appearance and psychologically wise), which is a bad composition by default. Watercolors also tend to not like going super dark, and while I can, the blacker I make Mewblade, the worse the composition would get. I wasn't going to win with that. Either way, for this I picked my lovely girl, Coline (Colleen, irony that it stands for 'The Girl' since in relation to Mewblade and her stories, that literally sums all), and my Mewthree, Mewblade.

I love Coline in concept, less so in character. She looks like a Barbie and emulates pure and wholesome qualities. Her Legendary is almost everything else in every other way. She's brutish, masculine and has a long list of personality flaws that Coline simply does not. In a sense, Coline is really Mewblade's crutch: The bright and shining star/flower child to the hideous, brooding monster. (Every Mewthree should still have one to calm them down and tame them a bit. Mewblade just happens to have the prettiest and sweetest girl for that.) Doing this in watercolors makes it a little more obvious of feminine interests, so worth the attempt to doing this without Photoshop.

That's a very soft and lovely coloring. I love the idea whit those white "spotts or sparklings", it compleats the picture rather nicely. It's a quite warm and loving piece yet Mewblades razors though makes me feel somewhat unease, like I imagine they would cut Colline by accident. In other words, it's a loving pic yet whit a spice of unease. Well much you can't do when your character is covered in razors, gotta be a problem whenever you draw her in any relaxed situations.

The white spots are those romantic lense flare things ala Sailor Moon style. Sometimes it just inspires in its own ways. I need to stop drawing them sharp in all presentations but usually she keeps a semi-dull to full dull edge on them. They're very easy for her to manipulate. It's such a lame excuse, I know, but covered for a lot of random events and something I had made up 10+ years ago just so she wouldn't lacerate everything.

Indeed, but I just thought of how important those spots were to fullfill the whole picture and truly bring out the colors. It would have feelth incompleate whitout them. Yes those razors is like a part of your character, it's just how it is whit my version of Mewtwo whit his coat thingie as well. He feels incompleate whitout it somehow, that's why I rarely leave him bare. I think I noticed in some pics of yours that sometimes Mewblade doesen't have those spikes visable on her tail, I was confused if I just imagined that though but now it makes sense. She can pull them in at wish.

The blades are titanium with diamonds tips. They're not removable, but they do compress up to an extent but not completely. They don't go away. Her tail is longer than Mewtwo's, and much so longer than your interpretations. Depending on rotation of the tail determines the presentation of her features. Would be the same if your interpretation of Mewtwo were to have more markings on the top of his tail, versus underneath. You wouldn't see them 100% of the time.

I figured that her tail must be longer then Mewtwo's or else that blade on the tip of her tail would be pretty useless as a veapon as I imagine how she uses it in battle. Indeed, Mewblade doesen't work at all in my current style whit that tail of hers as it need to be quite heavy, strong and powerfull for having any effect whit it hitting (I don't know how to explain it better) it's way into the subject. Mewtwo's tail isn't very functional for anything in my style, he just has it as if it was an genetic left over.
I see.

Kind of like how the second necks are, also looks quite like a leftover. Are you going to end up removing the tails entirely then?

How come you are asking me such a question?

Just wondering if you'll ever dock the tail, or have plans to in the future. Curious question, nothing more.

I don't know, maybe I will change the ears and get rid of that tube eventually (if I would create something like my own OC out of him someday) but I don't think I ever get rid of the tail. However I am not sure as an OC if he would be different enough from the original Mewtwo, something about his face is still quite Mewtwoish even if I would drop the ears and the tube.

You don't need art classes, but you do have to be self-critical.

Automatically when it has Mewblade in it, it probably will be dark. Can't really avoid it.
