hello,

Ive stumbled apon youre impressive gallery and noticed the speed film you use...

isnt it difficult? very cool, but I wouldnt expect it, maybe I have so much to learn

Hi,

Well I don't shoot over 800 so often: mostly in the situations I know upfront the light would suck. All high speed BW films on the market are very good now, I don't think it is harder to use them than say a 400 ISO film if you know how to develop film already.

nice!

what the hell did you develop this film in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

varjag In reply to Redeemerr [2006-11-07 13:36:01 +0000 UTC]

Microphen stock, time extrapolated from Ilford datasheet (can't recall now but maybe 16 min), 5 inversions every 30 seconds. Didn't really expect it to come out that well too

Thanks for the comment!

Can't do much about the man Besides I like he makes viewers uneasy.. he's a bit like the mask in "V for Vendetta".

varjag In reply to kinderschokolade [2006-06-19 21:37:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

Yes, pushed to 10k give or take. There wasn't much light available that night.

Not that Im saying anything new, but great picture. I love the expressions of the crowd, and its so dramatic in the snow or rain or whatever that is.

dougy [2006-06-18 16:30:52 +0000 UTC]

This is also a great picture, the grainy black and white with lots of contrast make it look very iconic. There is a lot of energy and movement in the picture, with the snow falling and peoples breath; the guy in the centre... despite what you said about it being a sarcastic laugh, still seems optimistic to me. Anyway, very impressive shot.

Thanks for the insightful comment!

To great extent I like the shot for its emotion as well; it might be not very descriptive of the event, but I hope conveys the spirit of people who gathered on the square despite threats of violence and legal prosecution by officials and harsh weather.

... And SORRY for misunderstanding the meaning of this photo. You should write something more in the description, the discovery that the subjects are the loser ones changes completely the perception of the image.

varjag In reply to Xalira [2006-06-21 11:48:49 +0000 UTC]

Hey, you don't have to apologize, it's my fault

I have to admit though that part of me wanted for people to discover that the situation is completely different from the obvious from first sight, so you fell a victim of that

it can be misleading because people rarely look for the meaning behind the shot. the story it tells, the history behind it...

another beautiful and haunting image from the elections. gooodness man you deserve an assignment with AP. you are too good to be a freelancer you know?

cheers

mal

varjag In reply to malicia-dabrowicz [2006-06-06 12:51:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Mal!

I think AP doesn't typically hire freelancers.. they also want it to be in color and on digital. And since I have daily job anyway, it makes no sese ruin a nice relaxing hobby by turning it into fulltime job

Their candidate has lost presidential elections, which are thought to be rigged. What you see is actually a sarcastic laugh for one of the speakers joke.

As you see, photojournalism can be extremely misleading
