Personality: Saito is very easygoing, and prefers to avoid conflict. He likes to talk to people, but also desperately wants to be liked; this does not mean that he craves attention. Saito can come off as flirty, but rather, he just likes to make friends and learn about other people. Despite his open nature, he finds it hard to trust people, and rather than being indecisive, he likes having the proper time to make a decision. Saito used to make his choices based on his gut instinct, but he runs more on logic now. When troubled, he tends to withdraw within himself, even though he should confide his problems in other people. Likewise when he's nervous, he scratches the scar on his face. He used to like and get along with kids up until his accident, and now he finds their honesty and rudeness rather frightening. He is bothered a lot more by his scar than he himself realizes.

Bio: The third child and the second son of his family, Saito grew up being very loved and coddled by his family. He was decent at his studies, never failing his classes and always managing to rank around the top 50 of his grade, and was popular with his classmates thanks to his good looks and friendly nature. However, he never dated, much to his mystified family and classmates, for the simple reason that he had been fostering a quiet crush on his best friend.

During middle school, and most of high school, Saito was an active member of his school's drama club, finding acting to be his stress outlet. Performing ended up being his one creative passion, and he had both the talent and the work ethic to improve his skills. During this period of time, he was once scouted by small modeling company, but he refused, wanting to focus on his life as a high school student. He did, however, decide that upon graduating from high school, he would immediately try and join a professional theatre group, or at least begin modeling professionally. And with a promise to join the agency the spring after his graduation, he continued his idyllic teenage life.

However, Saito's infatuation with his best friend had blinded him from realizing that his crush had become a delinquent and a town pest. His best friend had joined a gang, and had taken up vandalism and other petty crimes as a hobby - but Saito endured it all with a smile, thinking that deep down, it was still his innocent childhood friend under the constant scowl of a punk. During summer vacation in 12th Grade, Saito and a few more of his classmates ended up following his best friend to a less-than-well-regarded district in Tokyo, where the other various members of their group ended up being harassed by the gang members and delinquents that stuck with his best friend. Finally deciding that he couldn't ignore their wrongdoings, Saito quietly and calmly tried to ask them to stop, eventually letting his friends escape by distracting the scoundrels momentarily. They responded by slicing his mouth open to his ear with a butterfly knife.

The injury itself had healed rather cleanly, but Saito himself knew that his chances of being cast in any performance had been crippled. The modeling agency that had contacted him in high school quietly and meekly withdrew their offer, and while the rest of his family was furious, Saito himself accepted it. Makeup could only do so much when he had had a grotesque curve carved into his face, after all. Despite the gentle support of his family and classmates, the slight grimaces, the stares, the gasps, the eyes that refused to meet his - all of these things threw his mind into a quiet avalanche. On top of all of this, the best friend that he had given up so much for dropped out of school and refused to meet him at all. How could he even trust people any more? Could he even trust himself? His own self esteem fell severely, although he outwardly kept a poised and relaxed image. In the end, he and his family decided that perhaps it would be for the better that he started living with his older brother in another district, away from the people that he had once known and trusted.

And so he lived with his brother aimlessly for one year, slowly settling into new habits as he set his eyes on Kamenoko University. With a little financial help from his family, and his own saving from the various part time jobs he had worked during high school, Saito Kaoru decided that he would figure out his future by going back to school.
