Description Pro Skyrim Tip: Dragons cannot climb stairs.

After cleaning out the Ironbind Barrow , Sher Bahadur, the Khajiit hunter-battlemage, had stumbled onto Mount Anthor , and spotted a Word Wall!

Eagerly he climbed the stone stairs leading to it, and felt glorious as his presence activated the ancient runes on the wall, and he was imbued with the Ice Form Shout. He was excited to try out the new Shout he had just learnt.

Suddenly Sher Bahadur heard a deafening roar and a loud thud, as the very ground beneath him shook with a violent tremor. He whirled around and found he was trapped! An ancient dragon had spotted him and he had no avenue of escape!

Quick as a flash, Sher Bahadur shouted the newly learned Ice Form shout at the charging Dragon. Which was nullified in mid-flight with an equally powerful Frost Breath shout from its gaping jaws! This was an Ancient Frost Dragon!

But his magicka pool wasn't better than that of a huge dragon. As his Shout abated, and his mana pool revived slowly, he needed to retreat. But where? He was trapped within the Word Wall, and other only way out was to deal with the lumbering dragon. He had to think fast, and hope his enchanted arrows could take out the beast before it chewed him for breakfast.

Sher Bahadur rolled backwards, closer towards the Wall and unsheathed his bow. Despite his Nordic Ranger armor , he involuntarily shivered as he braced himself to be wiped out by next Frost blast from the Dragon.

Which never came! The Dragon roared in maddened fury, as it struggled and slipped on the stairs. Its Frost Breath blast couldn't reach him!

Sher Bahadur smiled. The Dragon was trapped too. It couldn't climb the stairs, its frost attack didn't reach inside the Word Wall platform, and he could just snipe at the stupid Dragon, from a safe corner of the very Word Wall it had been protecting!

Staring the Ancient Frost Dragon in the eye, Sher Bahadur crouched lower, then calmly nocked a long arrow on his enchanted Scoia'tael double-bow , and shot it at the dragon. It struck the Dragon right on its blooming nose! With a high-pitched yelp, the Dragon turned tail, and flapping its huge leathery wings, it flew away towards the horizon.

Surprised at such an easy victory, and disappointed that the Dragon Lair didn't have any treasure chest nearby, Sher Bahadur scouted the area further. He found some Moonstone and Silver ore veins that he quickly mined, and even found a meandering path that lead up to the Mount Anthor Summit , where he found a strange Dwemer Shrine.

But there were a couple of Ice Wraiths guarding it! Rather than dueling them, Sher Bahadur used the Animal Allegiance Shout to becalm them, and then quickly looted the useful potions and Enchanted Dwarwen Warhammer he found at the shrine.

Climbing down from the summit, he found the Dragon still hadn't returned. Sher Bahadur gathered his horse, and rode away on the narrow mountain path towards Winterhold, confident that selling some of his new loot would get him a few day's lodging and boarding at the strange town.

His quest had just begun.

Heh heh, thanks, I love this little scene, and it is funny yet interesting. I loved that dragon's vivid colors and skin texture, so I had to just show him off here. Glad you liked this!

Love the vibrant colors of the mighty warrior and his foe against a snowy backdrop, an epic illustration and story!
I find it amazing that the dragon flew off, rather than continue to be peppered with arrows from a location it couldn't reach ... perhaps it wasn't such a stupid dragon after all!

Thanks, Ithil. The vibrant colors and the fact the dragon got stuck on the stairs, are the reasons why I posted this simple screenshot.

The Word Wall at Mount Anthor is against the side of the tall mountain, hence the dragon couldn't fly over the word wall while blasting me with a freeze breath.
As to why the dragon flew off, it may be because I was doing mumbo-jumbo to it!

Since it was struggling on the stairs, I used the console command "TC" to take control of the dragon and see if I (as the dragon) could navigate the stairs better.
The camera went wonky, and I ended up landing the dragon on the rocks behind the alchemy stand you see in the scene above.

I gave up, and the dragon took off into the air, and then flew away, and didn't return (though I could hear it roaring in the distance as it circled over Azura's Shrine).

It is not such a rare occurrence for a dragon to flee away from a fight. Perhaps here's another good reason why:

I like the angle! You can see various things strewn across the path, and what looks like an alchemy station. I also like the colour of the dragon.

You're absolutely, right. The color of the dragon is what intrigued me in the first place to get closer to it. There's indeed some bones and other paraphernalia scattered there, and that's an alchemy station, alright! You've good a good eye, Cheesey.

Thanks!
