My first attempt at figure modding a Yoshi Amiibo figure into Boshi from Super Mario RPG Legend of The Seven Stars. I have yet to see a custom of him made, and feel he could use a bit more love (and hey,I want to challenge myself!) I used many thin layers to paint him, I'd say probably at least 7 or 8. I added the collar, sunglasses, and tootsie claws by using a 2 part epoxy putty which air dries within 2-3 hours and stays adhered to the surface, even when dry. I used the same thing on his top crest/spike, elongating it with the putty and then painted over to match Boshi. I also ended up cutting the bottom spike of the amiibo off with an exacto knife, so that the collar would fit all the way around him. It was a good decision, because out of the limited official/in game art I've seen of him, he only has 2 spikes anyway, and not 3 like the regular Yoshi does. I was also debating on whether or not to add fangs to him (as in the official art of Boshi, he does not have them, but on his in game sprite, he does). I decided not to add them because I feel that it is more true to the official artwork of him. Took a considerable amount of time to complete (I did not keep track of time at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if I put at least 15-20 hours of work into this, maybe even more). But, I have found that I really enjoy figure modding, and the process of making Boshi was something I'd look forward to doing when I got home from working my full time job, which really says something xD Overall, this was a great learning process for me, and the biggest thing I learned is to never use clay (especially cheap clay) to mask off areas that you don't want to get paint on. I was foolish and did this, but when I went to pull the clay off, the paint underneath that I didn't want touched by other paint, peeled off pretty bad (I think mainly due to the moisture that had collected underneath). So needless to say, I had to totally repaint those areas (including the eyes, white underbelly, under sides of shoes, and the saddle). I got him looking relatively normal again though, thank goodness. I'd still like to touch up the gold base just a tad, because there is a little bit of paint that got on it by accident. I used a matte varnish for the finish on everything except for the sunglasses. I used a glossy varnish on those to make them more realistic and shiny I will most likely add another album sometime in the near future of my whole process!
