Description
This is my friend Jimmy wearing his Gnezdovo helmet. A pretty good recontruction of the original find. The sides of the mail can be hanged from the hook on the nasal bar to give additional protection for the face. Below is a pic of me wearing a helmet of similar contruction:[link]

No I don't. But I'm fairly sure it is made by a polish blacksmith. If you google around on "Gnezdovo helmet" you should find it.

also, so this is the one from gnezdovo! I had to write a seminar for university about scandinavian and bizantine influence on the creation of the russian state and one of the books I read quoted a lot of sources on arqueological material, including the helmets from chernaja mogila and this one, but I didn't actually know that it was this 
awesome!

There are many finds of helmets from this area. The hook on the nasal is for hanging up the face mail (see description).

Offtop: I just imagined someone with great beard wearing this helmet without leather adds and it was like "ouch!" I got my hair tangled in chainmail once - and never again!

I feel you! Chainmail's a necessary evil. Luckely I'm not that into fighting so I don't have to wear it that often.
