Sunburst was born to a small, happy family, growing up beside his sister. From the time his fur and mane began to develop, Sunburst was instantly asked to be a child model and to play roles in movies- he simply had a unique design, and ponies loved it.

Both he and his sister, Sunset Shimmer, played roles in various movie as the children of main characters. Sunset landed a starring role- she was much more outgoing and had a star-like personality, but soon a letter came in the mail that contained an acceptance into Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns.

Without Sunset by his side, Sunburst didn't feel comfortable playing roles anymore. He wanted to do everything with his sister, even go to that magical school, but he had to prove his magical talent, first. Eventually, when his cutie mark still wasn't showing up, he accepted his fate and moved on. He wasn't about to let the lack of a mark destroy his life, and besides, he'd see Sunset when she came to visit.

Despite growing up with Sunset and sharing a close bond with her, as her visits became less frequent, the bond slowly became nothing more than just "siblings." He grew up painfully shy, more even than Fluttershy herself, but met a friend who understood him. Starlight Glimmer.

Starlight quickly became his best friend. She was just like Sunset- she was feisty, sassy, and competitive, but overall was a good playmate, and Sunburst loved that. She didn't judge him for not having his cutie mark, because she didn't, either.

One evening, as they were playing a risky game with a huge pile of books, Sunburst's magical abilities surged into him in an instant. One second, there was nothing, and the next, everything. He saved Starlight from a possible concussion, and merely seconds after the magical burst, a gorgeous mark had appeared on his once empty flank.

Forgetting everything from the present and remembering everything from the past, how much he wanted to see Sunset again, learn with her, and please his parents, Sunburst raced out of that room without so much as a second glance to Starlight. He didn't mean to hurt her. They were best friends, after all. But Sunburst was so caught up in that warm, beautiful moment, that he forgot about everyone and everything that lead up to the moment.

Sunburst was sent to Celestia's school. He was extremely quiet and didn't socialize with a living soul, keeping to himself and staying silent at all times. He wasn't paired in any of his sister's classes, never actually seeing her until her graduation from the elementary portion of the school.

Though he never got to reconnect with Sunset, he forced himself to move on and continue his studies. But all that quietness, the lack of social activity- what Sunburst needed in those schooling years was a friend. It would've helped him succeed, had he only known that was what he needed.

Until Starlight found Sunburst again, Sunburst hadn't accomplished much. He was so ashamed of seeing her because he left to do great things, he left Starlight to accomplish things. So he lied to her, claiming he was a great wizard who made discoveries in silence.

The truth was, Sunburst was a great wizard. He only needed a friend to support him. Otherwise, he was unsure of himself. Even though he abandoned Starlight as a foal, she helped him overcome his insecurities, proving to everyone that he was in fact, very talented at magic.

Sunburst is the official Royal Crystaller to Flurry Heart, and has sworn an oath to protect her at all costs. Despite going through a somewhat rough, unfulfilling childhood, Sunburst really proved himself in the end.

Side Notes

-Sunburst and Sunset Shimmer really get to reunite when she returns from the Other World to come home to Equestria.

-Sunburst suffered from a stutter when he was younger, but it progressively gets better as he grows older.

-Sunburst is very close to Flurry Heart. He wanted to know her and not just be some guard, no, he wanted to really know her, sit with her when she had trouble with homework, cry with her during movies, comfort her during rough times. If he was going to protect her, it wouldn't just be from physical attacks.

-Sunburst is still sought after to star in movies, something that doesn't just happen, but he declines every time. He technically has the time, but acting just isn't for him. He does, however, do modeling as a hobby.

-Sunburst is bisexual and happily married to Flash Sentry .

-The scars on Sunburst's body are from defending the royal family (more specifically, Flurry). He'll do whatever it takes to protect that moody pink princess.

-Sunburst loves wearing that cape of his, though it always seems to be getting in the way when he's walking in the Crystal Empire's castle. It once got caught on Flash Sentry's armor when they were merely acquaintances, which ended up turning into a big awkward mess.

Finally drew up Sunburst, and I played around with lighting and some new highlighting techniques. I love his color scheme, man ;-;

I tried to give him a fair reason for ditching Starlight so quickly, and hopefully I accomplished that
