Description
FreeBSD's bootspash image, save as *.pcx file to make it work.Things to add to /boot/loader.conf file:
splash_pcx_load="YES"
vesa_load="YES"
bitmap_load="YES"
bitmap_name="/boot/beastie.pcx"

is there a way to set the boot loader to display widescreen? I would be happy with a 1024x800 (but prefer 1440x900).

I would also want to achieve that, but I think its not currently possible or I havent heard latest news, maybe the latest work on amd64 allows that, You will have to try FreeBSD mailing lists here: [link]

You will have to excuse me this is my first day as a linux user however, How exactly do I get this on my boot screen on the Linux Mint 8 edition

I do not use Linux mate, and even if I have to (sometimes) I do not play with things like bootsplash on Linux, try google with bootsplash linux howto keywords as a start, or maybe some Linux user will reply here and help You.

a pozniej mi całkiem dysk siadł xD myślałem ze sie popsuł ;( ale dzien po tym jak mi były potrzebne z niego dane to odżyl na tyle że udało się je odzyskać, a kolejny dzien później całkiem odżył oO

Ja bym go mimo wszystko wymienil/sprzedal, albo pojechal go za pomoca shred (nadpisanie kazdego bloku losowa wartoscia zeby sprawdzic czy wogole sie nadaje jeszcze), na windzie to bedzie cos w rodzaju low level format pewnie.
