Description So deviantART is considering putting daily deviations in more places . That doesn't mean there'll definitely be changes, but it's a possibility.

They've been more aggressive with print sales and social media lately too.

After the More Like This fiasco, I thought I'd make a preview of how things might end up a year from now.

ewwwww more like this.
Usually it ends with things unrelated, like if you are looking at good undertale fan art or MLP stuff it sends to "that guy" art.
Also google search constantly uses it for ruining your search

adblock is a thing

You can't block the whole right hand bar without removing useful options too, like the favorite button. So adblock isn't a solution.

As someone who has submitted works, I'm also unhappy that my deviation pages are used to advertise other artists' works that are already far more popular and I often personally dislike.

It implies I recommend works I actually strongly dislike. And they NEVER link back to mine so the whole system makes my efforts harder to find!

I can't exactly force all my viewers to use adblock either.

Adblock only blocks advertisements, because generally they come from a separate server and it's very good at separating them out. You never lose functionality like buttons. I've used it for years and it's excellent, together with NoScript. As for your viewers, well, to be quite honest, in this modern age I expect people on the internet to have at least some basic level of competence, and there's very few reasons why someone wouldn't want adblock.

Oh so you're just thinking everyone uses adblock. You'll have to forgive me for finding that assumption a little silly, and for it not being related to a biased referencing system.

I really hope this is just pessimism, but i fear you may be right.

Well it is meant to exaggerate a little with the ads, but I can imagine that left bar happening. As much as the dA staff spoke against it in an earlier comment, they didn't have any issue adding an identical unwanted one on the right after all.

The same place beta testers could vote against thumbnail nerfs and More Like This

"So deviantART is considering putting daily deviations in more places."

It was a topic for discussion, and we were asking more about changing the current placement of Daily Deviations than we were about adding it to more places in addition to its current placement. While I understand your concerns in that regard, I wanted to make it clear that when we have discussion topics on the Site Update, it's not necessarily with the intent of making a change in the immediate future, if at all. It's to gather community feedback.

Veroom In reply to ikazon [2014-01-10 23:57:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm aware... I've only said the above trainwreck is a possibility. But I don't think it's unfair to call it a consideration, the update itself says "Are there places on site (be it in addition to or in place of the current locations)" after all, and questions imply thought.

Obviously I don't expect it to be added in the fashion shown myself. But then I wouldn't have believed something as unwanted as More Like This would be pushed through the way it has before it happened.

So I guess you could call this a more visual form of feedback, to demonstrate my dislike even for the possibility (and More Like This, yet again).

He just told you that the topic was about moving DDs, rather than adding them, which is contrary to the claims in your deviation description. Perhaps you should consider addressing that difference.

If the "be it in addition" part doesn't mean just adding, would you mind cluing me in?

I'm not even sure why that detail matters. The situation in the mockup could be achieved by moving them from the bottom of the page to the side of deviations.

ItsNotFilia In reply to Veroom [2014-01-11 01:51:04 +0000 UTC]

There's a 'more' that I seem to have somehow skipped, I apologize for the confusion that stemmed from that.

In any event, my impression is that you're overemphasizing some takes on the matter and, though I think people have the right to their own perspective on things, it is destructive in a discussion or promotion of a concern to overdo things.

Veroom In reply to ItsNotFilia [2014-01-11 01:53:58 +0000 UTC]

It's a picture that has an Even More from deviantART section and a poll on removing the deviations from deviation pages because they take too much space even after being squeezed between adverts and social networking.

Yes it's overemphasized. Can't I make a point in a fun way?

I had the description in mind, to be honest.

I'm afraid things will go like this and I got a feeling dA will lose a lot of members if that is going to happen...
Maybe i should go and look around for a new place to post my stuff in preparation

I do wonder if dA is going to see more challenge in the next year or two. The international Pixiv site is slowly getting set up, although for my needs I doubt it'll ever do Flash.

But then probably the biggest reason it isn't already is the main alternatives focusing too much on niches that don't overlap well, like harder hentai or furry which has at least three art sites now.

That won't go well. Its all on the bottom page already, isn't that enough?

Was a separate page for More Like This enough?
