Description
Picture represents a mating fight between dragons of my world, which would be their equivalent of a date. In this ritual a dragoness (the orange one) attempts to dissuade the drake and avoid getting caught. She might employ her fire to do so, while the male can only do so in order to deflect her spray attack. On these altitudes, due to much lower oxygen content, their fire does not reach steel-melting temperatures. It is, however, still painful for a dragon to be burnt by it.
The contest ends when drake either gives up... or manages to catch the dragoness belly to belly. If it is the latter, at this point any resistance on her part ceases, turning into complete cooperation with the winner's advances.
Some dragon pairs excercise this kind of contest everytime or most of the times they're about to get close, but that is very rare. Most resort to only "fighting" on their first encounter.
