Description My first leather bound book, made from some leftover leather I used on my steampunk goggles. I learnt a lot whilst making this book and it was awesome fun 8D I'll be practicing with leather again when I can locate a store that has one - there's like 2 fabric stores within a 30km radius or so O_O. The leather was too thick to use on the strong curved spine so I used some red fabric I had. Everythings hand done - page staining, spine construction, etc.

Conclusion: binding books is so much fun 8D

I couldn't think of what else to put in it and lately I've taken an interest in the stars so I drew up a title page and started filling it in, it's not done yet - as you can see!

This little guy is gorgeous.

It's great how you made it from leftover leather from your goggles, and I made my goggles out of leftover leather from a book.

The closing mechanism and title page are perfect. And the seam on the front, along with the jewel... /gush. This really has to be one of my favorites I've ever seen on dA.

Did you upload photos of your steampunk goggles? I'd love to see!

Interesting things happen when you have to work around obstacles, neccesity being the mother of invention and all that!

Thankers 8D I'm going to have to epoxy it to the leather though, me thinks, the bookbinding glue isn't strong enough. Book binding is hella addictive!

yeah and the leather is tough to find. There was a shoe shop here in japan selling heaps of it though for cheap, like 800円 a square meter. they even had crocodile!

Ugh, I know... our FABRIC stores don't even have it... and if they do it's marked up terribly.

Dude awesome! If leather isn't attackable by ausland customs do you think you could nab some for me and I'll pay you back? I'd just be looking for rich browns, black and red regular leather - reasonably soft and thin in width.

That is awesome! I love the title page.

I've been trying to find some leather for my goggles. All the fabric stores near me don't carry leather.

Thanks 8D Pointillism is awesome fun (in small doses)

I know, Isn't it crazy! Why is it so hard to find leather? I tried finding some snazzy cogs too but had zero luck...

DrLyzerg In reply to versarnwen [2008-08-12 01:15:06 +0000 UTC]

That it is!

I have no idea! I've only been able to find leopard print pleather . It just won't work with my goggles. Perhaps you could find some old clocks and get the cogs out of them. Thats what I do when I need some.

I once tried to do a whole A4 size Queen of the Damned tribute and failed, it's got very little done.

xD You could look like you just stepped out of a disco derigable? Now see I don't know where to look for old clocks! My city is kind of small when it comes to things like that, I'm betting if I found one it'd cost over $50. Hell, an A3 self healing cutting mat cost me $20 today O_O...

I would have to shoot down anything that even remotely resembled a disco derigable. Disco insults my ears.

If there are any antique stores in your city you might be able to get cheap broken clocks. Its worth looking into anyway. If not, you can find large sets of gears for sale on Ebay. Prepare to fight for those though. They go fast.
