i want to do what you do! well... i doubt i could make a saddle without someone there with me to do it.. but the leather crafts etc.. yeah.. i envy you. seems rare to find someone who does this.
my dad used to.. used to make moccasins, jackets, and other things.

What's ODD is the fact that i spent about an hour trying to find you and that saddle last night to show to a friend in NM who makes saddles, gun holsters, arm bands etc! he and i were talking about designs you usually see on saddles(he's not a fan of flowery things, likes simple designs mostly) but i gave up looking because i couldnt find the saddle or you! i searched all over and nothing! i got tired and gave up and figured maybe you had left DA or something.
and here you are replying back to me!
Tell me that's not odd! lol
anyway just to make sure i dont lose track again i put you on deviantwatch....thought i had done that already but who knows... a year ago there's no telling lol

i live in FL and my friend is in NM,, thats as close as i'm likely to get to having anyone help me out lol unless some day i visit New Mexico and he lets me borrow his shop
one thing is i would love to get my hands on some leather to do some designs. i've carved wood before using both carving tools, dremel, and wood burning kit... i'd like to add leather to my list of accomplishments. i want to learn how to make fancy heavy duty dog collars and other such things.. just seems like leather is expensive. if i knew how to tan it myself i have an endless supply of deer skin. but thats another skill i dont know but want to learn lol

Leather is fun to work with but as you've noticed, it ain't cheap! If there's a Tandy Leather Factory store anywhere near you, drop by, they're always giving classes and stuff, and even when they're not they're happy to help people out with individual problems. And they do sell little bags of scrap leather for really cheap, if you need some odds and ends to start practicing on- even if there isn't one nearby, I think they've got them somewhere on their website. But that's what I recommend when you're starting out, just play with scraps for a few weeks, you're going to make mistakes and you might as well get some of that out of the way before you start shelling out moolah for nice leather! And if you get interested in garment leather try montanaleather.com because they've got really good prices for that kind of stuff. Or at least they did last time I bought anything from them, which was admittedly a pretty long time ago.
Anyway... thanks for the watch, I'm going to try and check this thing more often! lol
