I came back to this image a little later in the day with a clearer head, and gave it a quick look-over. I didn't like how she just wasn't popping against the background, and figured it was because both the character and the background had the same tonal value and contrast. So the image was unable to jump out.

I've tweaked a few elements, particularly in the background, and gave her a much stronger outline than before. I also reduced the background color saturation, and made it more of a yellow tone, so her blue-ish silver tone would stand out more.

This is my entry for *Karbo 's coloring contest. The Chimera is like a duck-billed platypus on even more crack. She has traits of all major animal kingdoms, but is unique in the way she defends herself.

Chimera's have no need for spines, poison, or brute force, she can stay one step ahead of aggressors by manipulating the stream of time. People who anger or harm a Chimera will find themselves the unfortunate recipients of great back luck, even well after the confrontation. So while they're predominately harmless, even playful with others, it is highly advised to not attempt to attack them.

Since they have no need for camouflage as a defense, and can manipulate time to affect even their own fate, Chimera's have developed a multitude of appearances and vibrant colors. This particular Chimera desires to be seen and appear more vibrantly than the others. She has developed her scales like the rainbow, and developed luminescence in the eyes and horn. Not only does the colors and glow make her appear dominant over others, but is also a stern warning to would-be attackers that she is particularly powerful in her fate-manipulating abilities.
