Learning through endless tutorials and books
It's a good thing it's fun, or it could get highly painful

I think it's really great. The HDRI sets up a great fill light effect but I still think a strong secondary light is needed to really bring some interesting shadow and light play into the room.

This is very realistic, but I think it really dosnt express anything, however, you could just be trying to re-create a room. I just think it really dosnt have an idea behind it, in terms of a statement.

I think radiosity might just be a Lightwave term. Is it?

Thanks. No not really expressing anything here. Simply a study of my apartment bedroom for hands-on practice. Modeling-texturing-lighting of things around me.
Learned a LOT from that study... might finish it more one day...migth not, who knows Thanks for the comment!

It's quite photo-realistic But it's small - rendering too slow on higher res? Hehehe, same here

Yip, need a PC upgrade, but I'm currently too poor
Also had a 256MB Ram chip die on me...so went from 786 down to 512

Its hard to explain, you see I make multiplayer maps for Soldier of Fortune and the floor reminds me of the textures we use in those.

It looks like a poor resolution of a carpet, it just dosen't look real lol.

Maybe a slight bump map to give it some depth perhaps?
I do agree, but I assure you the tile is quite high rez. It's
just really bad carpet Might try giving it some more depth
or something. At the very least, I shall work on improving it!

God damn thats good 3D! I couldn't do that kinda stuff with Swift if I had hte powers of god.

If it weren't for the carpet I would say it was real!

Your definitly getting a DeviantWatch+

What's so bad about the carpet that's really the way it looks hey it's from 1978 we didn't buy it LOL.
But is there someway to make it look ... less fake?

Looks like a great render that's coming along nicely. I think you've done a very good job with the modelling and the lighting. Also, the materials on the bed are well done but I am not so sure about the carpet... it seems a bit off to me. Either way, I would like to see all the little details that you've placed in here but the render size is so small. Conventionally, renders shouldn't really be smaller than 640x480 as smaller renders appear very small on screens that have high resolutions.

The carpet is actually just crappy in general LOL
I've been keeping the renders at 640x480 because they're taking 9hrs on my machine at that size!
I WILL actually do some higher rez ones later when the room eventually gets finished
Thanks for the comments!

Nine hours? What kind of machine are you running where a 640x480 render takes nine hours? Yet, it appears that you are using radiosity which would account for that insanely long time...

1.2 Athelon w/ 512 pc133 RAM.
It's a combination of HDRI mapping, Final Gathering
and Global Illumination. The Final Gathering with the
HDRI is the worst! Takes forever!

bluespeed9 In reply to vexinc [2004-04-18 22:42:43 +0000 UTC]

I am assuming "Final Gathering" is radiosity?

Pretty much I guess...
Boucing "rays" of direct and indirect light mapping.

bluespeed9 In reply to vexinc [2004-04-18 22:48:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's pretty much what radiosity is. Have you considered turning down the number of bounces until your final render so the radiosity takes a lot less time?

vexinc In reply to bluespeed9 [2004-04-19 05:17:27 +0000 UTC]

Yah, probably a good idea hey?
But I usually setup the render before bed.
So the time isn't that much of a bother, it's
just done when I wakeup
