I'll echo the sentiments of many and say that I do believe it got more attention than was warranted.

I honestly did not like it. It was mediocre writing that just happened to be sad.
And if you think MLD is sad, you don't want to see a future fic I have planned. Flutterdeath makes grown men break down in tears.

My thing was with the grammar. Also, it was written using a lot of passive voice which is only really good for ambiguity or existential elements--neither of which is present in MLD.
