Proto Man is the first humanoid robot created by Dr. Light, and the prototype an older brother of Mega Man. He suffers from a defect in his energy system that could make him stop functioning, and when Dr. Light tried to repair this, Proto ran away, not wanting the adjustment to change his personality. Proto trained Mega by fighting him under the alias Break Man, using a black visor to keep his identity hidden from Dr. Light. Being Mega Man's prototype, he has many of the same abilities as Mega Man, including an arm cannon and the ability to copy abilities from other Robots. His unique Proto Shield can deflect objects, and while his attacks are stronger, his defense is much weaker than Mega Man. In Japan, his name is Blues, presumably due to his tragic back story, but this shares a music theme similar to "Rock and Roll".
In the Super Smash Bros. series, Proto Man's likeness appears as a Costume for the Mii Gunner. In Ultimate, he appears as part of Mega Man's Final Smash.
