A Soul Reaper adopted into the noble Kuchiki family and a subordinate to Captain Jushiro Ukitake. Rukia transferred her powers to Ichigo to protect his family, which led her to be momentarialy drained of her powers and later suspected of treason. Ichigo would go to great lengths to rescue her, and when the true enemy is revealed, Rukia dutifully returns to her job. Though she is very argumentative with Ichigo, she tends to be passive and unwilling to act for herself. Even so, she is very skilled in her Zanpaukto, Sode no Shirayuki, which can create powerful ice and snow. She has also been poked at for her pitiful drawing skills (mostly by Ichigo).
