The proprietor of the local shop, Nook's Cranny, Tom Nook is the first person you meet when you move into town. He sells you a house, and before long, you are immediately thrust into debt, but are given free reign to pay it off in installments as you please. As you purchase items from his store, Nook will eventually build up his business to include more items. Eventually, Tom would start a business in real state and leave the shopkeeping to his nephews, Timmy and Tommy. Tom Nook has developed a reputation where he is perceived as greedy, but in actuality, he's very friendly and charitable.

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Tom Nook appears as part of Villager and Isabelle's Final Smashes alongside Timmy and Tommy. He also appears in the background of the Smashville and Town and City stages.
