I learned how to use google sketch up, but the thing is that they were just the basics... I need to start doing my 3d work on it.. can you help me find some groups for sketch up here on dA?

This is really helpful.

But, what does it mean when someone says they converted it from Google Sketchup? Is there a gallery of what people made?...

VickyM72 In reply to DarkKonata [2010-10-11 16:11:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
They have a "3D Warehouse" here: [link] But, you can make these models and import them into other 3D programs like Bryce and Blender, etc.

Thank you! You know, I've been wanting to do some 3D wallpapers for a while, but I never once thought of using Sketchup. Nice tut, I'm probably going to use it for a long while (cause I can't remember anything to save my soul...

what was I saying? Oh, yeah I forgot the ).

Thanks very much for sharing this, Vicky
All I have to do now is finding the time to try it out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VickyM72 In reply to HBKerr [2010-08-07 20:03:33 +0000 UTC]

No problem! You don't need much time to do this, it's a very simple program that does amazing things. You could get through this tutorial in about ten minutes knowing nothing about it at all

tedil [2010-08-07 17:07:21 +0000 UTC]

you could simply import the ubuntu logo svg file into blender and extrude it ;D
but of course, this works almost equally well

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VickyM72 In reply to tedil [2010-08-07 17:15:06 +0000 UTC]

Of course, but this has smoother lines. You could also import the svg into C4D and add an extrude nurb, or just make it out of booleans. Many ways to accomplish this.

M4R13-J0 In reply to VickyM72 [2010-08-08 12:40:00 +0000 UTC]

Err... this is not necessarily true, I've just started learning Blender and anybody may correct me but... smoothness is something you can achieve by just using the right amount of vertices and a magic button that sets the shading to smooth and render

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VickyM72 In reply to M4R13-J0 [2010-08-08 20:01:35 +0000 UTC]

Err? If you have gone to my gallery, you would notice I use a ton of programs. I know the smoothing in Blender, and I even have a picture to prove it in my artist comments. I know about the vertices and I'm fully aware of the PS svg option to do this. This is a tutorial, tutorial = help. I didn't ever say this could not be done another way, and right above this I explain it can be done many other ways. I didn't even ask for a critique, use this technique, or do it your own way.

The SketchUp repositories? Not that I know of, I kind of figured this out from various sources and just decided to make it.
