Here's the new cover!

If you haven't read this, first YOU SHOULD. I'm not just saying that to toot my own horn, I've been a fan of the books since I read the first one in 1983! They're great children's lit but with the depth and complexity to be a rewarding read as an adult. Let me just explain the character - that's Thistle-chaser, who was attacked by her mother when she was just a cub and sustained but physical and psychological injuries, which she begins to overcome over the course of the story. The reason her pose is somewhat awkward and her left forelimb looks odd is because of the injury. She can barely move that limb and the muscles are wasted. Not anatomy fail on my part! LOL I looked at a lot o very sad photos of cats with leg injuries prior to drawing, and I still had to do a ton of sketches before it looked right to me. It also helped that years ago, when my sister and I shared a townhouse, she had a three-legged cat, Juliet (who still managed to dash outside and go right up AND down the tree once!).

And then, after finishing the cover, I came across this: [link] A cat with a paralyzed leg which regained use of it after swimming therapy - just as Thistle does by learning to swim in the book!

BTW, there are two very subtle easter eggs in the picture, but you'll have to look at it flipped L-R to find them.
